Metropolitan Areas -

Just thought I would share this with the community. I was going to start a Metropolitan Baseball League using the 24 largest Metro areas in the US but thought it would not work because of demographics, boy was I wrong! I took the top 24 metro areas (all of them over 2 M people other than number 24 which was Sacramento at 1.97M. Check this out..

If I wanted East,West and Central teams in each league (12 teams/3 div) I would get this:

EAST: New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, Pittsburgh

CENTRAL: Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, Cleveland, St. Louis, Cincinnati

WEST: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, Portland, Sacramento

Now if I want 6 teams per division and EAST/WEST format, dividing the country by the Mississippi River I get this:

EAST: all the teams in the east above plus Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati.

WEST: all the teams in the west above plus, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, St. Louis.

They both work out perfectly for a 24 team league....... probably going to go with an East/West 2 division setup.... did not think that this was going to be this EASY.

Sweet setup, but this math bothers me

my bad - that was 12 teams each league in 3 divisions, split the 8 teams in each grouping so that you would have 3 divisions of 4 teams in each league, each representing a region. 3*4*2= 24 (D/T/L) and 2*6*2=24 in the other setup.....
