News: Bret Boone was traded Tuesday to the Minnesota Twins, the Seattle Times reported. "I'm pretty happy," Boone told the Times. "This is where I wanted to go all along." The move, which will bring the Seattle Mariners a player to be named later, was completed just hours before Seattle officials were to officially place the 36-year-old second baseman on irrevocable waivers and make him a free agent.
Boone dealt to Minnesota.

The Twins are giving the Mariners next to nothing and will not take a large financial hit. Its a pretty cheap acquisition.

I wonder who the player to be named later is.

I'm pretty excited for this acquisition. Can Boone play third at all??

Better than what? This is baseball, not Arby's. When a guy can't play anymore, he deserves to get released, period. And Boone has been crap for a year and a half now. I'm amazed, frankly, that the M's got anything for him (okay, they didn't, but the Twins are taking a little bit of his salary with them).

Well, he played 8 games there in his career (I don't know how many innings). But even Cuddyer has a higher EQA this year. It's close though at .245 and .240.

I do hope that this isn't the last move for the Twins this year and I really wonder who that PTBNL is...that could change my whole thought about this "trade".

I do hope they trade Jones for a real third baseman later.

Nah. For the first time in the past few years - i'm saying DO NOT TRADE JONES! At least until the postseason...

Did you know that the Twins have the only ALL black outfield?

Who do you think they should trade if not Jones? Ford?

I don't think we really need a 3B from outside the organization. But if we did do a trade, I would prefer dishing out Hunter. He is playing really good this year, but isn't it contract year for him? Jones is taking more walks then ever and seems to be hitting better. Hunter is just making to much money. I love Hunter like the next guy, but I just think that Jones has a bigger potential. Ford won't get much in a trade, but if the right trade came up - yes.

And as is many times the case, he ends up going to another team. I've reached the point where getting excited about rumors is pointless since they so seldom pan out. But Talk Radio needs something to keep their shows going I guess.

Some minor leaguer. Well, I think they will just give an average prospect and cash. I don't think they'll trade Jacque Jones and Lew Ford for an aging 2B.

Neither do we. Davey thinks they should get a real 3B, and he was wondering who to trade for a real 3B.

I was talking about a seperate trade actually. But now that I think of it, that prospect that they trade for Boone may very well be Garret Jones. I hope not. I like that kid and he has a ton of power. But he's still play 1B in AAA, so he probably won't get to play much with Morneau. I hope they can find a way to move him (to third preferably).

Jaque Jones: If we could move him for something, I would be all for it. He simply isn't very good. SOOOOOOO many strikeouts. So few walks.

Meh. He's getting better at walking. His eye sucks, sure. But he plays good defense and has some power, albeit he's pricy. I'd also be for a trade, but wouldn't mind if he stayed either.

I really think that Jones has peaked. Soon his contract will just be money being eaten away. We should not resign him when his current contract is up.
