2005 Astros

Will they rebound and end up around .500? Or go down into the crapper.

crapper. They have no offense to rebound.

The offense looks terminal. I guess when Berkman gets his rhythm they could inch back towards respectability. Third place in the division and about 75-80 wins is the ceiling, I'm afraid.

Are they not already in the crapper?

It's rebuilding time. Clemens has already expressed interest in the Rangers and I say move him if you can. We desperately need young bats and the Rangers have a few to spare.

It's that 18 million dollars that's going to be the problem, i think.

Clearly, the offense is struggling. Berkman hit a homer last game and will eventually get his stroke back. Ensberg needs to show the power everyone once though he had. Anyone remember the days when we had too many good hitter? Alou, Everett, Hidalgo, Berkman, Ward, Abreu,Beltran all have come through the stros OF in recent years. In the late 90's i remember we had Alou, Everett and Hidalgo with a young Berkman coming up along with Ward... I miss those days

They made Chan Ho Park look like a Cy Young candidate. The only way they win is if their starter goes 7 IP, 2 ER or less.

I say crapper. Their aging offense isn't doing anything, and if they lose Clemens, they'll only have Pettite (is he fit or injured?) and Oswalt to really count upon in the rotation.

The only way Clemens ends up in Arlington is if the Rangers are throwing out names like Blalock or Texeira........Drayton remembers the fallout after Nolan Ryan headed north and doesn't want to be mentioned in the same breath as John McMullen.

The Astros are on fire right now. Maybe wild card contenders.

Is .500 the new Hoover Vacuum prototype or something? That's gotta be some powerful vacuum to suck that many wins into such a lifeless team.

They do have two of the top five starting pitchers in the NL. That Lidge fella isn't too awful either.

Well- Ensberg, Berkman, Lane isn't too bad. And Biggio is starting to heat it up a ltitle. Oswalt, Clemens, Pettite is one of the best 1-3 staff in the league. Lidge can shut the door very well. I see no reason why they won't get to .500

21-7 in their last 28. 2 games below .500 and only like 4 or 5 games out of the wildcard. Let's go stros!

Well with the cubs doing a nosedive, the door is wide open in the Central

From what I understand, pitching and defense isn't their biggest problem.

I agree that those guys are very good players, but you still have to wonder if they are enough. I'm not going to say straight out that Biggio and Bagwell are getting old and they'll decline, but you still have to think about it.

As for Berkman, lets hope he remains healthy. He's a great player when he plays full-time, but he still needs to hold up.

I really like Ensberg. Lane just needs to work on hitting for contact along with power. Players like him tend to not keep that sort of production up for a long time in their careers and he's already 28.
