saves
i've noticed that for awhile now in solo leagues i've been playin on 6.5 i havent seen many saves. In a solo league i'm playing now i'm about 5 seasons into it & i still havent seen a closer get 35 saves in a season, there was one yr when in the AL the guy with the most saves had 23. I know us fans have been lucky to see closers the last few yrs get big numbers of saves like Gagne or Smoltz but 23 saves in a season leading the league is way to low.
how could i change the game to at least get people getting higher save amounts (i would like to see 1 guy get 40 saves in a yr) |

i'm using modern settings, i dont kno if the roster patch i got changed some stuff to give me some odd stats. like i said bout the saves i also have seen a good amount of complete games, i have Ben Sheets on my team and during the last season had 16 complete games.
I thought that was odd because on my team strategy page i had set my pull SP to more to the quick side than slow. On the part about modern baseball the pitcher endurance is set at good, should i try lower that? |

Yes, I'd change it to "fair" and make sure that Use Relievers is set at "very often." That should start racking up the saves for you.

Default settings, ficitional league, after 10 seasons here are the records:
DH league - 39 Non-DH league - 52 I wonder if using the DH is altering this too much?

Well, I run an all-DH league that's been around for many moons and I've got 47 & 50 for the save records. However, it would be interesting to see if there is some sort of correlation between DH and non-DH leagues. It would make some logical sense if there is a small difference.

alright i did this, my first yr i did not see much of a improvement, with league leaders at 34 saves for the NL & 29 saves for the AL. Year 2 had a big improvement with save leaders in the NL at 53 & the AL at 42. Hopefully it stays something like yr 2. |

I too am having a problem with saves since V6.5. My team had 43 saves for the season. Unfortunately my closer only got 14 and my setup man got 17. As a matter of fact my closer only pitched 21 innings all season in 30 games. However; I am playing the mid to late 70's right now before the big time use of the closer. Maybe there were some adjustments made to make saves more reflective of the era. In previous versions I would get 40-50 saves in the 60's and 70's.

Also, just curious and you've probably already checked, but your closer wasn't injured at all, was he? Only other think I can think is if he was perpetually tired - his endurance isn't like 0 or 1 or something is it?

Could it be related to no closers in the farm system? Most teams have a 'closer' when you start a new season (historical or fiction), but there are no closers down in the farm. I think they computer is just sticking players in the closing spot, that are usually not good choices.

In my 1901 simulation, all computer controlled. It is 1965 and the most saves in the NL is from 1958, a grand total of 30!
The AL record is 25. VERY LOW!! I have changed the ERA to match the current year and have not changed any team settings on using pitchers, etc. All computer controlled.

I'd just like to say that I am very happy with the low save totals. They perfectly reflect what I want to see.
