6.5a - Old Ejection Substitution Problem
I haven't noticed it after an injury (it may happen), but I have seen it after an ejection. This is an old problem --- from 6.12 or before as I recall --- and at one time I thought we had it behind us. I was surprised to see it resurface:
-Batter argues over strike three call and is ejected. -AI fills his slot in the lineup with a PR position. -Inning continues until over. -The affected team takes the field. -Ejected player's position is filled by someone else, not PR, and PR not in lineup. -Affected team loses access to one player simply because he "filled a digital slot" for a partial inning. Edit: Excerpt from Box Score - Forbes never set foot at the plate or on the field. Substitution Notes 1 - B. Forbes pinch ran for M. Thorton in the 1st 2 - G. Samuel substituted for B. Forbes in the 2nd 3 - D. Preston pinch ran for C. Zepeda in the 2nd

Or do you have the option to leave him in the game? After the half inning you should be taken to your lineup automaticly then just right click on Forbes and tell the game what posistion to place him in, unless of course you are saying the game gives you no choice but to replace him?

I'm playing a 6.12 season that was moved to 6.5 in midseason. I have watched for this since you first posted and have had three AI player tossed out of games. In each instance the AI put in a player that could play the position of the player that was tossed and did stay in the game as he should.
I do remember when this was a problem and was finally fixed. I thought "oh know" when I read your post. I'm just wondering why you are seeing it and I am not? I play a standard ML setup. Is there anything different about your league? Number of teams or roser sizes? Era? I also see that nobody esle has jumped on board to say that they have also seen this. I realise it's the tech board and doesn't get the same traffic as the general board so maybe that is why. I'm not saying it's not occuring in your league. Just thought you'd want to know that someone else was looking but hasn't seen the problem. I will continue to watch for it and report back if I see it. |

I appreciate your monitoring of the problem. Like you, I have seen instances where it was handled correctly. But obviously, it has happened as I've illustrated above. And in the final analysis, it may not be so prevalent as to present itself as a problem for the long term. I play all my games out, so I can't speak to whether this issue would effect the human controlled player under simulation management.
Another aspect of investigating it is its difficulty to measure. It would literally take looking at all of the ejections and see how the substitutions were handled. It hardly seems like a balance of reward and effort. But who knows? It may fall in that category of unlikely occurences that may not have far-reaching effects, e.g. a player being ejected in the bottom of the ninth inning arguing his third strike to end the game. Sort of a "You're outta here! And take your team with ya!" ![]() I've seen that happen too.
