The Dominion of Canada Baseball Association
With the populairty of the Canadian University Baseball Association exploding, it was only a matter of time before the pro ranks would form up a league. This would come about in late 1919, when the sixteen original members of the DoCBA would sign the founding charter of the league. These owners would include the following (cities and team names to follow):
Devonshire: jazzmosis - Guelph randomlefty10 - Halifax jeheinz72 - Hamilton MisawaTD91 - Kingston CubsLose - London spleen1015 - Niagara Falls mauboy - Ottawa Wales: pat - Calgary Hoopscoach - Edmonton JDoldSchool - Fort William (would become Thunder Bay in 1970) BobButtons - Regina Vezna31 - Vancouver IceDogs squirrel_king - Vancouver Spitfires Spielman - Winnipeg Kings halofan26 - Winnipeg All owners will receive PM's in their inbox for the information needed by the league office. EDIT: All PM's have been sent out. Some followup ones will be sent to get some information but for the most part I've replied to everyone that has sent me a reply I beleive. On Canada Day (July 1st), we begin to write history. If you're intrested in a team, use the following file attached to select the city that you wish to be based in and send me a PM by Monday morning (June 27th) to be considered. We're still taking applications, but time grows short as our maximum is sixteen teams and applications close on Monday, June 27th. Dont want to get too big too fast ![]() As the new tems get ready for the draft (at present June 27th), and scout the available players, it's looking to be a VERY exciting year to begin the DoCBA. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell. UPDATE: Player list posted below.

How it all came to be
After the war, the game of baseball exploded ontp the college scene as the recruits came home from the field of battle. Big business at the time, was reluctant to jump right in head first, but after seeing the success of the game in the CUBA, decided that it could quite profitable indeed. Small regional leagues had been operating for a few decades now but unlike hockey, had stayed within their local area in scope and popularity. One man sought to change that.
The Duke of Devonshire, Canada's governer general at the time, was an avid sports fan. Hockey, tennis, skating, cricket, you name it, he was into it. So when attending a game in Ottawa featuring the University of Ottawa's Gee-Gees 'vs the Carleton Ravens, he fell in love with the game of baseball, proclaiming it to be a "sutible endevour for young men to stay in shape while nejoying the fresk air and wide open spaces that this coutnry has in abundance." The seeds were sown for the promotion of what eventully become Canada's first professional baseball league. The message was spread across the land by the Governer-General, drumming up support with regional businesses and entrepreneaurs that agreed upon the creation of a professional league and its' economic viability, but were concerned upon where to get players, as the American leagues coudl easily outbid any of their offers. The soltuion, was to select players right out of university, players that had completed their degree and were heading out into the working world. With the plethora of talent being displayed in their ranks, the owners quickly found a solution to their only roadblock and quickly signed on. With the visit of Price Edward of Wales in the summer of 1919, the Govener-General converted who would quite possibly be their most famous fan. The price would give the royal blessing to the creation of this league at the offical corination in Ottawa. In gratitude, the league would name it's Western division after the prince (the Eastern division would be named after the Governer-General). And so that would come to pass that the DoCBA would come into existance.

we've had a great responce so far and have ten teams signed up. If you're intrested or have received a PM for a league form, send it back quick
. I'll also be sending PM's for soem stadium info for teams that havent sent it to me yet.as for team locations it's now first come, first served. I'll be posting a player list today as well. Have a browse at it as this will be the talent pool that you'll be building your team form. I look to get the draft moving with a round a day starting next Monday (June 27th). Team applications will also be closed by then.

Plus I want to try jsut being a commish for a chance. Never done it before so i'm sure i'll make a few bonehead moves :d As for no TO or Montreal choices yes i'm surprised as well. In fact the closest they came was Brampton, Verdun, and westmont, but they were like #4 picks. Vancouver on the other hand was extremely popular as the #2 choice, do we have a lot of west coasters here?

I'm surprised no one took Toronto or Montreal! Someone is going to be pretty lucky when they apply!
