Aging in 6.5
Has anyone noticed players aging a lot faster in 6.5? I have had three 4+ star players around the ages of 33-35, who had multiple $10 million plus years remaining, turn into 1-star duds. This turned my team from a postseason staple to a high draft lottery. I was able to unload one of them through waivers, but the other two are basically taking up roster space. All three of the players (Catcher, Second Base, and a Starting Pitcher) were all-stars last season.
I was looking around the league and a lot of players were also fizziling out around the age of 34-35 while before 6.5, they would go up to 38-39 before seeing a stats decline. Last edited by Cobra2002; 06-21-2005 at 03:06 PM. |

No, my players are still aging a year at a time. My 35 year old turned 36 the next year on his birthday.

I personally haven't noticed any difference. (I had a bunch of 34-35 year olds fizzling out on me with 6.12). I can say that fair amount of work went into the age questions of the league while 6.5 was in beta... with one of the problems in the earlier version being that everyday players in the league, on average, were too old. |

I have noticed fluctuations in star ratings for players, so this could be playing a role here. I've seen a 2.5 * SP switch between 2.5 and 1 * over the course of a season with no change in ratings. I haven't seen any super-aging effects though.

You might try SkyDog's *preliminary* recommended settings for aging.

I've notice, in my solo league, sosa, palmairo(bad spelling) and other players who started the season at 3 or more stars are flopping down to one star players, and Bonds is rapily dropping, he has more walks then strikeout and may be sent to the minor by august....Bonds made it back in july.

i liek stars because it helps you sort the players in the draft and free agents. then looking at stats and ratings is easier when you decide to get a player |

I noticed in 6.5 with the defaults that quite a few of the star players started declining noticeably in their early thirties, and retired (at least the first time) at 34 or 35. I also noticed a lot of guys not reaching the Show until 24 or 25, meaning I was having trouble getting realistic career stat arcs because guys just weren't around long enough to put up the numbers.
I restarted my league, and set Batter and Pitcher Development Speed to +30% so guys reach the Bigs a little sooner. I also decreased Batter Aging to -15% and Pitcher Aging to -30%. The difference being that pitchers tend to age more gracefully than hitters. There are a lot of 40 year old pitchers, but only a handful of 40 year old position players in MLB. Now I'm starting to see some decent potential career numbers. Star rookies are coming in at 21 or 22 and older guys are retiring at 37 or 38, with the occasional pitcher lasting until 40 or 41. That seems much more realistic to me. Last edited by tdneu; 06-21-2005 at 11:21 PM. |

So far I've seen a lot more players get into the bigs on their own when they're 20 to 23 than in the last version, which is great IMO. You even see less-than-stellar players do that, get to the peak before they're 25, and then wash out of the bigs by their 32nd birthday. I don't think I ever saw this before in the game.
Conversely, while I've seen a couple guys hit a brick wall when they turned 35, I've seen others play right on through 40. This is also cool, as my biggest problem with the aging before wasn't so much that 38 was a death year but that it seemed to be one for *everybody*. Now death years apparently vary wildly from player to player. |
