i've never had any trouble with the SI forums or anyone there. i guess i dont go looking for it though. an occasional post about a football thing i dont know (im a complete newb to the sport, thanks to FM '05 ) and an occasional post about OOTP to answer a blok is about as much as i can handle.

dont get me wrong, i hope and pray this place stays around. i wont be spending as much time at the SI forums as i do here, if they do close us down. im just not very fond of the style, speed, or convenience of the SI boards.

GreekMetsFan,
Isn't basketball pretty big in Greece (I thought it was even bigger than soccer, until they won Euro last year). A good friend of mine if from there and he seems to be much more into hoops. Though I don't think he gets baseball.

So the fact that a company produced a popular soccer game means you won't buy a baseball game that they pay someone to create? Seems odd. And what happens if you find out that Markus is also a soccer fan besides being a baseball fan? Will you stop using any version of OOTP?

You can't be serious. That's gotta be the stupidest reasoning not to buy a product that I've ever heard.

Does anyone know of a link that does a good job explaining how cricket works? I've been fascinated by the game for awhile but can't find (read: haven't looked) any good resource on it to help a newbie.

But to let the damn thing jump the track

Want the rules of the game?

http://www.icc-cricket.com/rules/

I'll try finding some sites that actually teach the game.

A woman I know refuses to buy any products from a major software company simply because it has the same name as her ex-fiance. IMO that's even dumber.

Basketball was huge during the 90's. From 1987 (year the Greek natioal team won the Eurobasket until 1998). Since then nobody cares. The only you can watch on tv is soccer, any kind of soccer you can imagine....

Thats total bull. The player usually gets right up after the yellow card is displayed. Such sportsmanship.

Thats the one single thing i hate when i watch the world cup. The guys rolling around faking. It is so obvious.

I know it’s stupid. But God I hate soccer so much! When you heard statements like the Americans are morons because soccer isn’t popular there and baseball is a zany sport and football is for wild and wooly people what are you going to do? In the end I’ll probably bookmark the OOTP forums on their site and buy the game too. For now I’m just bitching….Greek people just doesn’t know what the word sports mean, They think that sports is kicking a ball. If I lived in the USA I would just don’t give a **** about soccer. Living in Greece makes me hate it.

Urine and bottle rockets?

That's nothing in Greece they throw the players and the refs bricks, rocks, chairs, even tubs. Then the same player they wanted to kill they cheer him when he plays for the National team.

The above post I think really hits the nail on the head and rarely, if ever, gets mentioned in the whole 'Why do Americans dislike soccer?' discussion.

Speaking (perhaps inappropriately) for my friends, all of whom are a) Americans and b) rabid fans of football, baseball, basketball and hockey, we have zero tolerance for the ridiculous diving, the grabbing the ankle/face contorted in agony/writhing on the ground acting display only to see said player hop right to his feet completely unscathed once the thing has been resolved.

Call me crazy, but to me that's just lousy sportsmanship. I dont understand why the soccer culture allowed things to go in that direction, or that far, where that type of thing is not only acceptable but considered 'part of the game'.

To an extent I agree with you but there are facets of every game that have head-scratching moments in their culture.

For the life of me, I cannot understand the bench-clearing nature of baseball "fights". For a game that considers a player weak if they rub their arm or leg if they get hit with a pitch, why do they go through the inane spectacle of coming off the bench to "support" their team-mates if two players go at it? For God's sake, the benches cleared when two managers had a disagreement ( Frank Robinson and Mike Scioscia ). It's even considered bad form if the guys in the bullpen don't run to the "fight" but walk instead.

I love baseball but I hate seeing the benches clear just because two players start jawing at each other. [ /end rant ]
