what happened?

I defragged my computer the other day and now I cannot play OOTP4. Everytime I try to start the program I get the following message:

CreateSurface:backbuffer

an invalid parameter was passed to the returning function, or the object was not in a state that permitted the function to be called. this value is equal to the E_INVALIDARG standard COM return value .

Do I have to reinstall the progam and if so, do I have to pay again?

I started to play with it a little more and discovered that when I change the graphics setup to have direct3d off the game works, but it looks like crap and when I turn it on I get that error message.

That's weird. Maybe it's a direct3d problem, not an OOTP problem. I'm not sure how you would figure that out.

If you need to reinstall ootp, you don't have to pay again. You can install OOTP on up to three machines. Therefore, you need to reclaim the license you are using now if you reinstall. In your control panel, there should be an elicense control icon. You can unlicense OOTP there. Then reinstall and relicense. Basically, if you didn't do this, the elicense app. would think you were installing OOTP on another machine, thus using the second of your three licenses. Make sense?

I think I have narrowed it down to a direct3D problem. OOTP works when it is disabled but when enabled I get the error message described above. My OOTP has always worked with it enabled until I defragged my comp. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Nevermind. I finally figured it out. Somebody changed the settings on my computer to 960 instead of 1024. My brain has been a little scrambled the last two nights since the Giants blew the series. At least I know that my OOTP still works.
