Where and when did you first hear of OOTP? - Page 2

I was still playing FPS 98 and looking for something as good, but w/ free agency. I tried ootp 3 but didn't play it much. I bought ootp 4 when it came out and haven't look back.

Like several of you on this thread, I saw Season Ticket Baseball (2003) at the Electronics Boutique. STB 2003 was, I think, OOTP 4.

I think it would be good for Markus and the fan base for OOTP 7 to have a retail version. We'll see.

I was playing Baseball for Windows and really loved it. After Miller went belly up I was looking for something new and discovered OOTP. I had read about version one and found the website just as version two came out. I have purchased every version since then including the new expansion pack. Love the game and can't wait to see what happens with OOTP7.

I played APBA in 1954 as a teenager...we played on rainy days...we were always at the ballpark on clear days actually playing the real baseball game all day long...we would go home when it was too dark see the ball.

My dream was a game that would do the stats...we did them by hand...and would keep track of the league standings...and print out the stats and standings...I used an old Underwood typewriter with a bad ribbon to tediously type the stats and standings so they would look official...I don't think you could make corrections on the old Underwood...no correction tape or Liquid Paper...the Monkees weren't around then...Michael Nesmith's parent invented Liquid Paper. I used a rubber eraser to correct the many typos...Yeah it looked kinda messy.

My dream came true with OOTP3.

I did a search to see if APBA was still around...did a search for computer baseball games on the Internet and found OOTPB.

I went to the store to buy a cheap game... any game... I just had to (Maybe it was a sign!)!

So, my last two choices were "Ambulance Driver" and "Season Ticket Baseball 2003". The ambulance thing looked fun and the baseball game looked a little bit "textual"... but seems full of stats and ratings...

I decided to go with the ambulance thing... not (There's always GTA for that...)! Seriously, the choice was logical... I love baseball so much!

Found out that STB2003 was way cheapier than OOTP...

I bought every version of OOTP since.

My baseball game playing started in the late sixties with strat o matic. I then progressed to the c64 and pure stat baseball. From there it was to Lance Haffner Full Count baseball and with Lance's game I thought I was in heaven.

Then when Playstation 2 came out I went and sat in line with my son on the release day and bought it for him. May sound boring but it will always be one of my favorite father-son memeories, we had a blast. This store was only alloted 20 ps2's and we got the first one. I know what does this have to do with oopt? I'm getting to it.

I was still playing Haffner's game when High Heat came out for the ps2 and was being reviewed as the most realistic baseball game. We bought HH for the ps2 and were having a blast with it. However one major glitch got through on the console version. When a player was injured the game did not tell you how long he would be out and no one at 3DO had a soultion to the problem. My son came up with a solution and when I posted it on a board someone from 3DO saw it put it in their FAQ and wanted to reward my son.
They offered him a free game and since the only good game they had was HH we ended up with a copy for the pc. This in turn led me to baseballsimcentral
looking for mods for the pc game. It was here that I first heard of ootp.

It looked interesting but without real players I almost passed. Found roster sets though and so I gave it a try. Bought ootp4 and d'loaded Rolen17's roster pack. After my first game I thought it was nothing more that a glorified Lance Haffner game, not a bad thing to be but nothing I hadn't seen before. After about 5 games I started to realise what I had and have never looked back.

So here I sit in my solo universe playing 'em out one game at a time. In my world it's now 2012 and of my original Cubs from 2002 I only have Patterson, Wood, and Prior left everyone else is now fictional. When I watch a real game on tv I now tend to compare those players to my fictional ones. Tori Hunter reminds me of my young stud, Eric Annunziata. Both great centerfielders with great speed and instincts but Annunziata has a little better stick

As he ages and his power developes he'll make people think of Jim Edmonds.

Still going strong through versions 4, 5, and 6. Eagerly awaiting v7, with Markus and SI teaming up it should be a great game.

I was in a high heat online league with some guy named Steve who mentioned during trade talk IM's that he was involved with a text based baseball sim.

He sent me the link but at that time I was too naive to appreciate anything text based. Luckily I asked him for that link again a year or two later and was hooked.

That's where I heard about it..............bought v2 that very day and could hardly wait until the CD came in the mail!

I actually dl'd OOTP4 demo on Kazaa and was instantly hooked. Bought the game like the next day.

Lurked on the High Heat boards while watching it implode. (too many bugs, too little support) Saw a reference to OOTP 2 or 3 . . . never looked back.

Whatever happened to High Heat anyway?

Being an old dj for 31 years, I had forgotten that bit of musical trivia.

He was a very talented guy...and probably still is...Sadly, the music world only give most of the artists 15 minutes of fame...many of the older singers are much better now than when they were popular, but unfortunately, radio doesn't play them.

An artist can be a great singer and never get the chance to show it. He has to be in the right place at the right time to make it.

In my 31 years in country music, I ran across many fine singers that never "made" it...they were on a small record label...but we played them as much as the big stars, if they were good enough...and big corporations that dominate radio now...actually monopolize it...don't play artists that are on small labels...therefore the public is shortchanged...big corporations do not serve the public interest as their FCC license requires...they only serve their pocketbook.

It was different before the FCC sold out to the big corporations...up until about 1982 an unknown singer on a small label could have a #1 record...but not since.

Sorry for the digression and straying from the main point of this thread.
