Where and when did you first hear of OOTP?
I remember sitting in the Jacksonville Int'l Airport, waiting for a flight reading a review of an obscure baseball game created by some German kid on his own in Computer Gaming World magazine...
I don't think I actually purchased OOTP until version 3 had come along, but it had never left my mind after reading that first review. I have since not looked back or purchased another text baseball sim.

I bought an edition of "season ticket baseball" at Sam's for like $9.99 and after going online found it was the cd version of ootp. Quit playing diamondmind due to the expense real quick after finding this game.

I first read about it at the FOF forums. I was big into FOF until I discovered OOTP.

I was at work back when I was a part-time student and worked part-time. I was in the break room on lunch I believe...I had grabbed what was probably the same issue as the one you were looking at...I saw a half a page preview (might have been a review..can't remember). I was interested in it but didnt buy the mag...and I didn't remember the website's address.
Short time later that weekend I remembered the article and decided to check out what was out there as far as sports sims. I soon bought FOF (I think 2001) and OOTP 3.... |

Maybe the review was for OOTP3, I can't remember, I thought it was v1.
Do any of the oldtimers remember if the first OOTP was reviewed in CGW? |

I remember I was playing Baseball Mogul(which at the time I loved) when I heard about OOTP 1 but at the time what I heard wasn't flattering(Something to do with Markus useing someone elses work....I believe it had todo with the players rateing I think)
But when OOTP2 came out I gave it a try and have bought every version since. And haven't bought a Baseball Mogul since(Did buy the second version of Puresim though) |

I had done a search for baseball sims about 1.5 years ago. I was a product of the old Microleague Baseball on the Commodore 64. I used my Comm 64 until 1994 for that game. I then moved to FPS Baseball Pro '96 & '98 on a PC. My new PC would not run BB Pro '98 so I had to find something new.
I bought and played Mogul 2004 and somehow I got an email for OOTP last spring about a new version. I thought it was the newest version of Mogul because I didn't remember seeing OOTP before. Since I thought it was a new version of Mogul, I bought OOTP 6. When i saw it was completely different, I shelved it until I had time to learn it. When I lost my job, I had plenty of time. Needless to say, in one year, i am a veteran of playing out 16 full season and I'm hooked like heroine. Thanks, Marcus!!

I used to lurk on the High Heat message board quite often, and I believe that's where I first became aware of OOTP. I investigated the early versions but if I'm not mistaken it was a DOS product at first, so I wasn't interested... instead I waited and waited in frustration for High Heat to incorporate free agency into their game. That didn't happen, I finally bought OOTP3, and the rest is history.

Markus, believe it or not, once wrote a utility program for Diamond Mind Baseball...and the rest is history.

My cousin recommended Season Ticket Baseball (OOTP V4) to me while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. I told him I wanted a realistic baseball game, not another arcade style Playstation game.

I played Mogul like, um...seven years ago but quickly grew disappointed/frustrated with the series. So a few years back I did a web search for baseball sims, read a few reviews on what I found, and purchased OOTP.

I saw a mention of it on rec.sport.baseball. Took a look at the features in v4 and bought it a few minutes later.

Saw a review for Baseball Mogul in PC Gamer. Bought it, thought it sucked especially online. Looked for something similar, found OOTP.

Bought the first version after hearing about on the pc sports games newsgroup. Thought it had potential but hardly played until version 3.

I actually ran across puresim and after waiting for a while (the development was reeaalllll slow back then. Searched for other Baseball sims and found the old OOTP board. I bought version 1 when it came out and have been around ever since.....I was lucky enough to get to beta test a couple of versions, also have added some historical feedback (my one remaining legacy is the names and time periods of the different eras of the game
)Much has happened since then, kids have grown, gotten divorced and remarried, OOTP board is now on it's third different server, seen many interesting people come and go in the community (anyone remember Tris? we seldom agreed on things but I must say I miss him) and watched OOTP develop into the finest Baseball sim on the planet, with one of the strongest communities (I include TBCB in this also) you will ever find for a game developer. Yes much has happened, but as James Earl Jones said "The one constant through all the years has been Baseball"

I honestly don't remember. My first version was OOTP4. I played a lot of high heat back in those days, so i'm guessing i found it lurking on a baseball messageboard or a high heat messageboard. But as stated before, i honestly don't remember.
