Did you ever figure out if you're having twins or what, GForce?

thanks for the feedback guys.
Chris, it's just one. We think it's a boy, but we were hoping to find out for sure this weekend and the baby didn't cooperate. But my wife and I got some rough news about possible complications. So things are a little tenuous right now. She's having a real hard time. Nothing is set yet, but she has to be monitored pretty close. GH |

Just make sure you have Cool Papa Bell, Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson in there.

This looks like an interesting project, GForce. I'm doing a very similar project that is compiling the all-time greats for each state, based on place of birth. We are importing players from the Ankit normalized database, using the season that most closely matches each player's career averages (for batters, I picked the season with the closest OPS to their career OPS; for pitchers, I looked at a combination of OBA, Ratio, and ERA).
Here's the link if anyone wants to take a look. States League And hey, congrats on the new baby. Hope everything works out. My son turned 1 last week, and it's been the most incredible year I could have possibly imagined. |

Thanks, T. Looks like a neat idea you have going there.
Hopefully all goes well with the baby. Some issues (I mentioned them in OT so I won't rehash them here) to deal with on that front. As for the project, I added the completed the Phillies last night. They haven't been posted to the site yet. Hopefully I'll have the Pirates done by the weekend. GH |

An idea of what needs to be done:
- Import and give main ratings for Rangers, Reds, Red Sox, Royals, Tigers, Twins, White Sox, Yankees, "Arizona" Expansion squad (to include players from past 4 expansion teams and likely with Japanese players added), and "Washington D.C." Expansion squad (comprised of prominent Negro leaguers and minor league greats). - Go through each team and add necessary players to rosters (I'm trying to have each franchise's top 10 in BA, HRs, Runs, Wins, Innings and Games represented unless the player is taken by another team) - Add unused prominent Japanese, Negro League, Minor League (small list) and unclaimed good major league players (think Brett Butler, who went unclaimed) to free agent list -- Conduct "competitive balance draft", with franchise winning % determining draft order (worst is first). -- Fix ages according to new age scale posted earlier -- Adjust current/potential ratings based on age effect -- Sim and test, release beta -- get feedback, adjust as needed -- Release final version There is no timeline for this, I just wanted to give you an idea of what was left. Progress has been good (I'm able to do a lot with the sheets at work off of baseball-reference.com). But with everything going on with my wife and free time quite valuable, as well as any help needed to update the set with Rolen after release, I don't want to give any date for this. I trust you understand. Any questions, please feel free to ask. GH Last edited by GForce22; 10-25-2002 at 04:21 PM. |

Dear Gforce;
A suggestion for a solution to what to do with the Negro League players: why not add them into the rosters for the MLB teams closest to where they played? KC Kings would go on the Royals, Homestead Grays on the Pirates, Elite Giants on the Giants... you get the drift. This would serve to "dilute" their impact somewhat, and would also have a certain justice to it, no? Better than making up a "pretend" team to segregate the poor guys into... and lord knows, the Royals can use all the help they can get, and the prospect of Josh Gibson filling the catcher's slot for the Bucs is awesome. As for the question of "What to do with Satchel," well, he might as well go onto the Orioles, since he did get to play for the Brownies; even if they don't really need another pitcher. ![]() As an aside, I've been running All-time All Star leagues under various engines since about 1980, and while I hardly claim to be a baseball history expert I have done a little research into the subject, so if there's anything I can do to help out, drop me a line. Regards; Mal |

Another Mal
![]() Thanks for the thoughts. I admit, I hadn't thought of that idea and I understand your logic. The thing is, I would still need to add another expansion team. And I don't want to bolster the already good teams. For the Giants and Pirates to go getting even more good players would just widen the disparity. I like the idea of the Expos getting a crack at a Josh Gibson or somebody like that. I think what I will do is the Negro League team, so as to not completely rip their top guys from them, will hold onto any of the negro leaguers who made Bill James' top 100 players all time. So right there that will give them a solid core. I'm still deciding how to handle the rest of filling of the roster. Your idea may come into play in some degree. I'll certainly keep it in mind. Thanks for the input. GH |

Update,
The Rangers and Red Sox are done and sheets are done for the Reds and Royals. Moving along with it. I haven't updated the site or simmed another season though. I likely won't sim until they are all imported. Tigers, Twins, White Sox, Yankees, and the two other teams (base Expansion teams, base Negro Leagues) GH |

As I mentioned previously, after the base teams are done there will be a draft of remaining players, including negro league players not put on their base team, Japanese players who don't go on the combined expansion/Japan team, and other major leaguers who were unclaimed but I feel are significant (free agents in essence).
I said I would do the draft part based on franchise record, with the expansion team going first and the negro league team going second. Because of the strength of the negro league team, I am going to put them dead center at 14. They don't need the bump in talent to the extent the expansion team does. While I am not putting all the best negro league players in with that team, they will certainly have more talent than a good number of the teams in the league. Based on franchise record, the filler draft will be done in this order: Code:
1. Diamondbacks (Expansion/Japan) n/a 2. Padres 2460 2921 0.457 3. Rangers 3097 3560 0.465 4. Phillies 8419 9653 0.466 5. Mariners 1924 2163 0.471 6. Brewers 2545 2831 0.473 7. Mets 3091 3412 0.475 8. Twins 7523 8227 0.478 9. Orioles 7519 8224 0.478 10. A's 7595 8132 0.483 11. Expos 2605 2769 0.485 12. Angels 3243 3431 0.486 13. Astros 3229 3285 0.496 14. Negro League n/a 15. Braves 9246 9357 0.497 16. Blue Jays 2025 2043 0.498 17. Royals 2675 2694 0.498 18. White Sox 7942 7802 0.504 19. Tigers 8035 7750 0.509 20. Reds 9302 8936 0.51 21. Pirates 9275 8925 0.51 22. Indians 8061 7701 0.511 23. Red Sox 8070 7686 0.512 24. Cubs 9579 9056 0.514 25. Cardinals 9393 8838 0.515 26. Dodgers 9457 8581 0.524 27. Giants 9771 8329 0.54 28. GForce, how many players total do you plan on having in this roster? Also I was curious who was going to be on the Negro League team you have and how many Negro Leaguers altogether you will have?

Each team should end up with upwards of 50 guys I think. 28 teams. So about 1400 players total. GH |

All-time players
I can't wait for this to come out. I have something similiar. I'm sure yours will be much better.
One problem I have is the payrolls are too high. I have to have around 180 million dollar cap to be able to get players to sign. Also did you add P Roger Nelson to the Royals. He was a good pitcher for them. They used him to get Hal McRae from the Reds Royals |
