Another reason why I love this game!

In one of my solo leagues that I play, The Pennsylvania Baseball Association, Pittsburgh had just been eliminated from a tough year-long pennant race with Erie. So the next day to end the season, 25 year old PHENOM SP Richie Streit (a guy who may one day be the best pitcher to ever pitch in the PBA) throws a 107 pitch, 13 K PERFECT GAME, the first in the leagues 17 year history. Since I'm just sitting here by myself just dying to tell someone I thought I'd share the story with all of you.

I find myself wanting to do that all the time. I want to share the stories, lucky for me I have a coworker that loves the game and my best friend loves the game.

My league has had several perfect games pitched in it's history. One of them by my team. The cool thing is that he sucked. his ERA was high and he was a 2 or 2 1/2 star pitcher. It came as a complete shock.

Nothing to compare to a perfect game...

but thought I would share it anyway...

Johnny Antonelli of the New York Giants in my Alltime Allstar Association hit Ernie Lombardi of the Cincinnati Reds...Lombardi charges the mound and they brawl for a couple of minutes...the benches empty and the order is restored...both are ejected.

First time I had seen it.

I love the "little things" that happen in the game, too.

That's why it is such a special game.

I had a rookie knuckleballer throw a no no in his 12th career start against my arch rivals in the playoffs in my last season. Needless to say, he's become a legend for it. I may even see if his popularity level can be edited and raised.

While we're telling stories, I had a 37 year old, four time Rhoden Award(best pitcher) winner in my solo league who tore his rotator cuff in June, effectively ending his career with 199 wins. This guy wasn't a hall of famer, too short a peak, but he was a sentimental favourite of mine, and had dominated the league in four different years.

The first off-season after I got 6.5, he returned from surgery and retirement, presumably to get his 200th win at the age of 39. Opening day, he went eight solid innings to pick it up.

That is so cool! What a nice surprise! Is this a great game or what?!?

I once had a 2.5 star player with 48 control, 60 stuff, and like 60 movement throw a perfect game. He wasn't on my team of course....

It kind of sucks that none of my friends play this game.

I had my own interesting event the other night.

Back to back no-hitters were tossed by NY pitchers against an overmatched Pittsburgh team. IIRC, Pittsburgh ended up going 24 consecutive innings without getting a hit.

Nothing like starting the season 37-30, in first place half way through June. Then, the wheels fall off, you lose 14 in a row and at 37-44 you are 7 games back!

BAH!

Interesting . . . Is a player who's close to a milestone more likely to comeback? (It would make some sense, as both of those features were added in 6.5)

That is great. It would be even better if he retired again the next day too

I'm wondering how this returning player would/could be handled in an online league. Should the team he retired from have first dibs at him or just an open FA period for him? Any ideas how the game handles this in 6.5 or do we need to look at house rules for that?

But what if he threw his no-no, flipped off the fans as he walked off the field because they boo'd him two games before. I don't think yo ushould touch the popularity edit feature(if there is such a thing.. doubt it).

Let your imagination go wild, man! If he's a 0, then go with my scenario. If he's a 6, then go with what you want.

Just a follow-up on Richie Streit. Just about 2 years later he pitched ANOTHER PERFECT GAME. It was the 3rd in league history, he now has TWO perfect games in his career and is just 27 years old. Has anyone else ever had a pitcher throw multiple perfect games. If so, before they even turned 30?

That is the sort of thing that is going to make me want to buy v6.5 (once patched) very cool story - thanks.

Here's another good story.

Down by two runs I pulled a double switch to leave a better defensive RF in the game as he had pinch hit for the pitcher. My pitcher then took over in the #3 spot. He sets the opposition down in the bottom of the eighth and we go to the top of the ninth still down by two. After a couple singles, a double, and another single sandwiched between a pair of outs, I've now taken a one run lead. However without paying attention I accidentally allow the pitcher to hit with a runner on second and two down. Damn I thought, there goes a chance for a much needed insurance run. Glance down at the pbp and I see this.

Quote:
Stepping into the batter's box is
P Chuck Wilson
There are 2 down.
The count is 0 and 1... (well at least he didn't strike out)
Swett with the pitch
Wilson swings
there's a screamer to deep right-center.....(no freaking way)
RF Carlsen is going back
this one is long enough
IT IS GONE!! *faints*
My, oh my!
Hey, pitchers aren't supposed to do this! (yah no kidding)
His first major league hit is a two run homer in the top of the ninth inning tacking on two more runs and creating a 3 run deficit for the other team.
