player popularity
I saw that the new expansion pack is going to have local & national popularity and it made me start thinking of ways to enhance that since i'm guessing it'll just go by the players "star rating" & stats.
The first off would be with the local popularity... a major factor into that should be if the player is a hometown player/state player/region player (if player's home state doesnt have a team). for example if you are playing as the sf giants, a player that is from san francisco should have a higher popularity rating than a equally talented player that is from new york. Then to add to this if a player makes a remark about a team or city (something like what steve kline was saying about playing with the o's earlier this yr) should cause the rating to drop. So the game would have to stop generating players that just list what country a player is from and at least narrow it down to what state a player is from. it would also have to add a new email format that might say something like "i'm sorry to inform you _________ made some comments to the media about the club/city (whatever)" Another factor for both the national/local popularity should include the player's personality type. If it just went by stats & rating then someone like Barry Bonds would have high ratings while in real life he is not that popular (even before the steroid controversy). Maybe just incorporate the player personality choices from the ITP (team captain, obessive-driven), that could be placed by the "loyalty", & all that stuff that is already listed on the player profiles. Then the opposite could work, if a player is charitable & does alot of good for the comunity because of their strong personality it should improve them. A players charisma should be a factor in the personality. Then finally the hardest part would be including things like if a player is going through legal trouble, steroid controversy, had a close call with a fan, or even blow a play (bill buckner for example) could effect the ratings What do y'all think should else be included & is any of this possible to do? It would be interesting. To expand on that, regions could have fan intensity. Like here in the Philly area fans are truly fanatical. A lot of us root for guys from Philly, and we always want to see former Phils come back to coach (horrible as Mike Schmidt is as a manager, people want him on the bench).
So players from Pennsylvania/Delaware/S. NJ would be more popular as a home-town guy than in, I don't know, probably DC where fan loyalty would strike me to be pretty low (that's the way it is with the Capitals & Wizards, mostly people going to see their home town team play THE home town team). |
