It think he should be in...if Clark Gillies can get in, Neely should definitely be there.

Just saw on the news and came here to start a thread, but saw this. Awesome, awesome news. Back when Neely was with the Bruins I loved hockey as much as baseball. Craig Janney and Glen Wesley were tons of fun. Sadly, the team was dismantled or injured and it all lost it's luster for me.

I'm not the biggest hockey fan though I was huge into it for several years in the mid-to-late 90's so I know of Neely very well. I don't know how his stats stack up or even what constitutes Hall of Fame status in hockey but I know he was a dominant force in his heyday and all he's done with the Cam Neely Foundation overshadows whatever was cut off his playing career to me. Great hockey player, even better man, Hall of Fame without a doubt.

Neely has always been my favorite player, and I'm very happy to see him get in the HHOF, he truly deserves it.

Great day for hockey news as it appears progress is being made towards ending the lockout as well.

I still have my Cam Neely poster hanging in my room I got in 1989 when I was 7 years old. He's been my favorite athlete since then, and I'm really, really excited that he got in. I didn't think it would happen given that he had to retire at age 30.

How does Neely get in, but Dino Ciccarelli doesn't? Ciccarelli is 13th all time in goals scored, with 608.

You can definitely make a case for Ciccarelli... but I'm not going to claim that I know enough about hockey and hockey history to have a serious intelligent debate about HoF worthiness.

However, I will say one thing since people keep bringing stuff like that up. There was infinitely more to Neely's game than scoring goals. He completely revolutionized the forward position and basically created the concept of a 'power' forward. I don't think Ciccarelli is in the same league as Cam Neely.

I would defer this question to someone like LLN or SoxWin who knows much more about the sport than I.
