OOTP 6 Crashing on Startup

Hello everyone.

I've been playing OOTP for a long time now with no errors at all during play. A few days ago I recieved this message upon startup:

OOTP6.exe has caused an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The error signature is:

Appname: ootp6.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 Mod Name: ootp6.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 003e40fa

So I backed up some of my favorite leagues, uninstalled and installed OOTP6 again in another folder. It worked fine and I added some of the leagues. It still worked. The next day, the game crashed again, with the same error. I tried another directory again, and it crashed just a few minutes ago. I am getting really frustrated.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong here? I'm currently in two online leagues and I need to be able to make my exports!

Any help would be appreciated.

Bump.

Please, if anyone knows a solution to this problem, please tell me, or direct me to a thread that will have the answer. I really want to start playing OOTP again.

That happened to me once. All I did was reboot the computer and it worked.

That's all of the advice I can give you, Zach.

I have the same problem. Game worked fine for 106 seasons of old league, then started a new replay and.........

What i found is i have to rename what ever user created leagues directory (i..e. mlb.lg to mlb2.lg) before launching game. It then goes to the game default league, and then i can select my league and play. Not exactly a good solution, since you have to remeber which league to change each time you start OOTP. (or if you use 3rd party tools that need certin directories.)

Is there a ini file or something like that, that keeps track of last game, that is stored outside of the OOTP directory????, and doesnt get replaced when you reinstall them game?

Heres the 'data' from the error message:

That's right, but it's stored inside the main OOTP folder. Can't remember the name of the file now, but it stores the last league opened. Therefore, if you quit the game and delete said league, the game would crash the moment you open it again as it can't load up that league. It should be replaced any time you reinstall the game, but sometimes it keeps on using the old one for some reason. To avoid that, reinstall the game in a different directory.

I'll give that a try........

footnote: i found the setup.dat file, that holds the default startup and the sound/skin setting. Deleting this file seems to work (you just have to turn off the sound and pick your skin again)

dont know it thats the best way......but it works (well for 2 tries, so far)

As I said in my emails to you my game problem is the same as the thread starter except that I copied a league that previosly worked under v. 6 into the main folder, opened the game, then open a league, my league that I copied was listed, I chose that league and the game crashed to show the errir above, your advice was to remove the read-only and archive, I am unable to remove the read-only status even though I am signed in as admin.(XP version of windows). I am at my wits end. Thats a short drive to my wits end.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

So you guys have deleted any leagues? I mean, you can't delete the last league opened or the game would crash next time you run it. Also, I don't think you can delete Career2004.lg (or whatever the defaul league's name is). If it's setup.dat, it should refresh when you install the game again. Don't try to change the name of the default startup league there. It'd crash still.

I'll attach my setup.dat to see if that helps, but you'd have to wait a few hours for that.

Here's setup.dat (backup yours first and then extract to the data folder)

Well, I actually fixed the problem with mine.

What I did was erase ALL traces of OOTP on my computer, while backing up some of my favorite leagues to my desktop. Then I redownloaded and installed from the website, and now everything's fine. Don't know if that'll work with you guys or not.
