Punching the clock

An interesting article about Mike Tyson and his new prospectives on life as he approaches 40. It seems that Mike is finally growing up.

tyson article

Quote:
"I always tell my children, protect your name," Tyson said. "It's worth more than a million dollars. I tell them, 'Your daddy doesn't have a good name right now, but you can change your daddy's name by the lives you lead.'"
I've never been a big fan of Tyson and his antics... but, with the exception of possibly Ali's life story, I cannot think of a figure in the world of sports who's been more provocative, compelling and fascinating.

Interesting article!

I see you're a Rice fan. Yes, my N.C. State Wolfpack has a tough road, being the 2nd seed out in Lincoln with top seeded Nebraska out there!

That is an interesting take on Mike. If he is indeed growing up, great for him! Unfortunately, the body may be gone now that the mind is coming together.

If that is a true reflection of who he is now, I may even have to begrudgingly root for him.

shunt strayed a little off his normal bolde path to grace us here in TB with his immense knowledge ... please acknowledge his existance. Also I think if you ran your poll here in TB Chris would out number you about 57-1 and that is if you vote for yourself.

CC does a lot of work for the Boxing fans down here. If you keep harassing him and he does something that gets himself banned, you would have a whole lotta people upset with you, bro.

Be cool shunt... keep it in OT okay?

this thread has taken an odd turn of events, but to go back on topic, it would be itnresting to see if "Iron Mike" (or is that rust now), has finally had some sense knocked into him.

And did he get married again? I didnt think he had kids with the gal he was with in the late 80's

It's pretty obvious with the current crop of heavies that, sadly, the only fighter that can really put some life back in the division is Tyson.

The only problem is, I don't think he has anything left.

I can't understand how they don't have Vitally and Lamon inked yet. That would be, at the very least, something the heavyweight division could rally around at this point in time.

Anytime they recycle old retreads, read Rahman, I'm not into it. Or if Chris Byrd is fighting, or John Ruiz, or James Toney, and on and on and on in the heavyweight division.

It's pathetic really.

RDKLEIN.

Problem with Tyson is like most thugs its always someone else they look round to blame for their failings. He should have tried bringing up a family like some of us or our parents did on very little money and working 60 hours plus a week for a mere pittance.

Do you know something as a child the only time i and many others ever had an apple or orange to eat was at Christmas time. Never saw my Father much, Dad was to busy working his guts out like many other Dads had to do just to put enough food on the table.

When my Father was home i used to watch Dad rubbing some stuff in his bleeding hands which were caused by working with cement and lime all day. Of course as a little kid at the time i thought nothing of it.

Tyson probably feels a little sorry for himself, and now looks back and regrets someone of the things that he did in his younger days. He also i suppose thinks he had it hard in life. To me anyway putting in a 12 hour day, week after week working on a backbreaking job and seeing no way out of it for the rest of your life requires more guts and character then that so called Iron Mike Tyson ever had. I hasten to add but of course thats just one man's opinion.

Do i feel sorry for Tyson? not one little bit, it was all of his own doing. and to be very frank i am pretty sure although he was an exciting fighter as a young man, most people who have bothered to find out a little more about the so called Iron Mike i think feel the same way. That guy had the whole world at his feet and blew it time and time again. Many people had problems in there childhood but there comes a time when you have to do your best to move on and hard as it is, grown up and become a man and try to become a decent member of society.

"Years ago, it was a badge of honor to fight that long," Tyson said. "That was your job. Nowadays, if you fight 20 years you're a pugnacious clod. I don't know how history will remember me and really, I don't care. I'll just be happy to be remembered, even if it's as a . Mike Tyson the ."

Did he actually say pugnacious?
Correctly?

Never thought I'd live to see this day
