Mid June doesn't necessarily mean June 15th. If I was a betting man, I'd bet June 18th.

NOPE, NO WAY!! June 16th @ 00:00:01 and not a fraction of a second later, earlier, or otherwise. The release was clearly defined and can no longer be changed.

I don't see the hype about BABIP. If you have a high strikeout guy (batter or pitcher), his BABIP may be high but his overall AVG/OBA may be low. For a hitter, you may know if he doesn't strike out, he may have a good shot to drive in some runs, but his AVG is going to tell you his overall chance of doing anyhing.

For a pitcher, if his OBA is low but his BABIP is high, you know he has to strike the guy out or you're in trouble.

Its a different stat to look at, but I don't see an applicable use for it.

I am a betting man, and if we don't have 6.5 by June 18th I am certain someone will be asking sarcastically, "if it gets pushed back are you going to give us a 6.13 to tide us over?" Oh....it won't be me. I'm just imagining such creatures exist on this island.

Majesty brings up a very good point

As GM in a solo or online league what is the purpose of BABIP?
To just see it? For how good a pitcher is with the defense around him?
I know it's nice to look at, such as WinShares to determine who was a truly good pitcher or not, but in the scheme of one season, it's not like you can effect a P's BABIP in a significent way, unless you play a defensive wizard instead of a good bat

How should you utilize it?

The way you use it is to determine whether a guy is actually better or worse than he looks. Given DIPS, most pitchers are supposed to have the same BABIP. Pitchers that have high (low) BABIP are either unlucky (lucky) or playing with bad (good) defenses. Having BABIP displayed will actually help human players take advantage of the AI a bit more, but we do it anyway with informal, back-of-the-hand BABIP calculations (at least, I do).
