Box Score ?
This is more a baseball question than anything, but I notice an H in the pitcher's boxscore line on occasion...what does that mean?
(I saw this on ESPN.com also...am so confused )B. Donnelly (H, 3) |

It stands for "Hold", which as far as I know is given when a relief pitcher comes in with the lead and leaves with his team still ahead. That is, if his team wins the game.

A hold is awarded to a relief pitcher if he comes into the game under save conditions and does not lose the lead prior to his leaving the game (i.e., his team leads and he would qualify for a save if he were to finish the game from that point).
If a reliever comes in, is taken out of the game, and his team subsequently loses the lead, he can still be given credit for a hold. |
