I just realized that you took one player from each OF spot, rather than the 3 best OF in the league, which is the way it's done in the AS Game, so I can see your point a bit better now. I would take Edmonds, but Clark is the #2 CF in the NL right now.

Yeah, I did do that, I can't argue Edmonds over Clark both are playing good right now and Edmonds should probably get it because of consitancy.

Nah, Edmonds should get it because his numbers are better.

Which ones? Edmonds has him in OPS, and Clark has him in VORP. BA goes to Clark. OBP is a virtual tie .404 to .405. EQA would be Edmonds. So they are very comparable right now. So it is not just because Edmonds has better numbers because they are both having great years. Like I said though Edmonds should probably get it due to consitancey, I am just not a big fan of his defense.

Obviously I'm a devotee of the Flatus Method. I have found both to yield remarkably similar results yet using Uranus is oftimes more accurate, if only by a hair.

You know, immediately after I posted this topic, Izturis dropped a ball headed towards him last night. But it was a rocket shot to third and even if he had caught it (it had bounced, no line out), he was running full speed to the 3rd base line and getting the guy out at 1st would have been a web jem miracle.

But, he did drop it....

Speaking of the allegedly weak NL, I hear the Giants have someone that's not too shabby at the position right now...

Ah yes, Omar Vizquel. Never much of a hitter he's now decidedly in the negative in that category and at this stage his defensive reputation far outstrips his current performance.

True... Clark has about 50 more PA's though. That counts for something.

By VORP, he's got a slight edge (21.8 v. 19.7).

As I said though.. I wouldn't argue either.

Omar Vizquel in waiting. He's only 25 and an incredible defensive shortstop. Pulling up his career OPS+ is exactly why I hate stats. Look at a number and you instantly know everything about the player. His OPS+ last year was 88 and he's still growing. .288/.330/.381 were all career highs, as were his 193 hits, 32 doubles, 9 triples, 4 homers, 62 RBI, 25 SB, 43 BB -- just about everything, really. He's scrappy with the bat and amazing with the glove and he should just keep getting better.

Not true. People who use stats like this are using them completely wrong.

However, statistics are an invaluable tool (ESPECIALLY in baseball) when you put them into context as you did. He was 24 when he put up that line and it's safe to say that he will improve (as you stated).
