I agree ... I have NO problem, at all, with buying a new game each year when they come out. As it should be, as a company has to make money, but I think that improvements to current games are patches. IMO these are all additions that would be included in v7, and I would gladly pay for that finished product - but I think it's wrong to add a few things and charge for them. Truth being - we could all just wait until spring (when v7 finally comes out) to get these upgrades, and skip this payment. But, unfortuneately - many leagues will adopt this patch - errr I mean - "expansion pack" and people (me included) will be forced to purchase it. Point being that I don't think any "extra work" was involved in these additions, as IMO they were being done anyway to be part of the v7 product. So in essense, I'm getting charged twice for some of the improvements. |

You can run both versions at the same time on the same computer. I am doing it right now with 2 machines. Just install each version in a different directory.

V7 is a lot more change than this. As we learned recently, the whole code is being rewritten. Maybe this would have been (part of?) V7 if OOTP hadn't joined SI, but as it is, I think it's an excellent addition, and well worth the money. There's so much new stuff, it honestly feels like a whole new version, and if anything, I'm happy to be dropping ten instead of twenty dollars on it. Plus, I'm happy to support Markus and OOTP whenever I can, so I won't get too upset about it.

Would it be possible to get a group discount on this? What if I wanted to purchase this for all 30 teams in my league?

I don't have any problem paying $9.95 for this expansion. If Markus had not gone to SI and had released this "expansion" in March it would have been called ootp7 and we would have paid $30 for it. Lot's of cool things here that have been asked for in the past and will really make it a new game.
With this many additions will there be any negative effects if I update the game during a season? I ask because I am just getting ready to start my post season in my current league and will wait to start my next season until the expansion comes out if necessary. |

Thanks, Markus.
If it is as good as it looks, this will be fine and worth the money. I hope it is thoroughly tested before it is released...and patched if needed. Just an observation: Markus is in business. He is not operating a charity for those obscessed with computer baseball...although my wife wishes someone would start a chapter of OOTPB Anonymous. If the game has been improved like the announcement says, it is well worth $10. It would be worth that to me just to cut down on those incessant foul balls...improved play results by including the many plays that are missing from V6 like no dropped throws, 4 players never catch foul balls, no one ever drops a foul ball or infield fly, just to name a few. Really like the ability to set lineups 7 days ahead...especially for pitching rotations...retirements in mid-season and retirement comebacks...all very nice additions. Looking forward to BigCity's view, preview or review. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-26-2005 at 10:45 AM. |

Doesn't look like it. This is the one black mark on this expansion. There are a lot of people that are going to have to run both versions because they want to play the new version, but their on-line league isn't updating because not everyone in the league wants to pay the $10 bucks. Don't get me wrong, the expansion is great, but it is definately going to cause problems for on-line leagues. |

The money argument seems pretty silly. If you want to just buy the new game each year, then do that. It's your choice. Plus since we're a male-dominated community, I doubt that you couldn't forgo 2 trips for fast food to scratch up 10 bucks. If it was $20, ok, maybe you'd have a point, but how many times in a month do you whittle away $10 puny dollars?
Plus, regarding an earlier comment, just because something was WANTED for a long time, doesn't mean it should all of the sudden be free. As a former programmer, there is still a lot of work that goes into the project.
