Questions about Online Leagues
Okay, I'm fairly new to the OOTP series, and I'm thinking about buying OOTP 4.
I just have some questions about online leagues, and I'd appreciate help on any of them .... 1. How long does a season in an online league generally take? 2. Do you actually play games batter by batter in an online league like you do in solo play, or do you simply set your roster and strategy and then the commishioner simulates the game? 3. Is there any leagues with only about 8-12 teams in them, that play shorter seasons? Or do most leagues play 162 game seasons? Anyway, that's all I can think of for now... Take it easy. |

It really depends on the league. Seems to me most online leagues simulate 2-3 times per week, 1-2 season weeks per sim. You'd have to check the individual league though, it will vary. 2. Do you actually play games batter by batter in an online league like you do in solo play, or do you simply set your roster and strategy and then the commishioner simulates the game? Some leagues will do live sims in a chat room. Most leagues, you simply set your roster and strategy, export your lineup to the commish, who then simulates the games for that sim period. 3. Is there any leagues with only about 8-12 teams in them, that play shorter seasons? Or do most leagues play 162 game seasons? I'm sure there are smaller leagues out there with shorter seasons. All the leagues I'm in have 162 game seasons. The vary in number of owners. I'm in a 16 team league, 18 team league, and 26 team league. You'd need to check each individual league for exact details. |

I see... I thought I had read somewhere, something like "Play your home series at home, and then send your commish the results". Does that ever happen in leagues, where whoever is the home team plays the series on their computer and then sends the results to the league commish? |

I have heard of that as well, but never been personally involved in a league such as that.

I don't believe a league like that exists, although it has been talked about on this board many times

Heritage Baseball (link in my sig) and Home Town Baseball are each excellent leagues which have only 12 teams and play a 120 game schedule.

2. Leagues that do regular live sims are pretty rare. There are more leagues do their postseason live, though. I've never heard of a league where anyone but the commish or co-commish sims the games. 3. There is, literally, just about any kind of league you can imagine. Most play in the neighborhood of 162 games, but I've heard of 80 game seasons and plenty in between.
