how far from baseball do you live?

i was just thinking back to an afternoon i spent with my (now) wife driving through western north dakota. talk about a place where nothing is.

so it got me to thinking about who among us lives the farthest from a major-league city? (tampa bay area residents, technically you are closest to the devil rays.)

i assume some of our many friends from canada--not so fast expos fans!--will easily outdistance the americans, and of course other international OOTP fans will as well, so if you're not from the US, how far do you live from the closest major-league team in your most major sport?

as a sidebar, feel free to tell us how many people live in your hometown, to see who is the biggest townie amongst us. coming from new jersey as i do, fenway park is 5 hours away, as is pittsburgh, so i have 6 major league teams within that distance. the population of my town is about 24k, but the county has 350k so it's pretty dense here.

don't know how big your town is?

I live in a suburb of Houston, so am about 30 miles from Minute Maid Park and about 250 miles from the Ballpark in Arlington, which is about 4 hours. I live in Harris County, TX, which is the third most populous county in the country, so it will take someone from Cook County, IL or LA County, CA to pull into the lead.

However, I am a rural person at heart. I spent my first 20 years in Monroe County, OH, which is the 4th smallest county out of 88 (population of 15,000) in the state of Ohio.

Even more extreme, my hometown (according to the source cited) has a population of 379. My current hometown has a population of 1.85 million.

I believe Cincinnati is the closest Major League to Indianapolis.

We have the Indians, Brewers AAA Affiliate. Victory Field got voted the best Minor League ballpark in the country a couple years ago.

Keene NH has about 22,500 people (unfortunately, not very diverse - about 98% white). I'm about an hour and a half to Fenway.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

I live in rural NW Tennesee. Union City has about 11,000 people while our county, Obion, has a total of 32,000 people.

I am about 250 miles from St Louis and farther from Atlanta, as if I'd spend money to see the Braves!

I used to live about 2 miles from Shea. You could see it from the roof of my building...we used to watch "Fireworks night" for free all the time...

Now, its about 45 miles, stupid Long Island.

I'm smack in-between St.Louis and KC...about 120 mi. from each. Columbia has a pop. of about 73-74,000...or thereabouts.

My hometown of Murphysboro, IL is about 9-10,000 in population and about 1 hr & 45 minutes from Busch Stadium...

I'm about 30 kilometers(!) away from the UFO. That's about 18 miles. It's pretty close, but the traffic is horrible. I always wondered why the Big O was in the East of Montréal since it's pretty poor around the stadium, whereas the West (where I live, unfortunately) is richer, it's suburbs, and 70% of the population is English (which I am not), and there are more baseball fans around here. Oh well.

2 1/2 hours from Chicago, 5 hours from St Louis, 5 hours or so from Milwaukee, 6 hours from Kansas City, and 7+ hours to the Twin Cities. Not a bad Central location if you ask me.

I live about 30 minutes away from the Metrodome. If they ever do contract the Twins, I'm screwed. I'm about 6 hours from Milwaukee, 8 from Chicago, and probably 12 or so from KC/STL.
