Markus, this is the best news I have heard yet. I have had to jump through hoops to get OOTP to work on my Mac through a PC emulator.
OOTP is the only game I have purchased with e-license so I am not aware of a product for the Macintosh |

Now how much would we have to beg to get a Linux version out?

Very good news, looking forward to a Mac version.
BlueTurf, how did you end up making OOTP3 work on your Mac? I use an iBook with OSX/9.2 and a while back tried OOTP3 with Virtual PC and no luck. Thanks. |

I downloaded the game, but could never get the purchase through e-license to work with Virtual PC. I later purchased the game for my PC laptop with no problems and then called via-tech for a manual license to use with Virtual PC and the game ran fine. Recently I found Season Ticket at a local store and I have had no problems running it using Virtual PC. Hope this helps... |

Thanks much for the information, BlueTurf. I guess I never thought of calling directly for the e-license. Will give it a try. Thanks again.

There's talk that AOL might "bundle" Linux with AOL and Netscape for its 32 million or so customers. And ... there's also talk that AOL might work itself into building a box with Linux, AOL and Netscape. Possibly into the next PlayStation (since the PS is Linux-based). Hmmm ... wonder what Microsoft will do when this comes about. "Hey Mr. Attorney General, look they're doing it now too." Skippy |

Clay...
I responded to your private message so I hope that helps. After playing with many different settings I have found that the video memory setting on Virtual PC needs to be set as high as possible. Even with that I experienced frequent crashes. I have installed Season Ticket Baseball and it has never crashed with the same setup. I am not sure what would be different from the 2 versions that causes issues with stability. Your best option may be to wait for OOTP4. Good luck, |

A Mac version of OOTP would be great!!!! I've got it running on my PC at work but that severly limits my usage -- you know, the boss and things like that.

I'm excited by the idea of a great game being taken across platforms. I'd love to push for OOTP4 to be taken to Linux. Would OOTP4 be able to work under Wine or WineX?

Bravo!!!!!
I work out of a home office in graphic design and prepress stuff, and I've got both a Mac and PC here. But... my notebook is a Mac. A baseball sim would be great for that, as I could take it on the road! I would think a Mac version could be a fine success, as outside of Championship Manager, there is nothing on the Mac side for text-based sports sims. Hell, except for Backyard Baseball, I don't think there is even a Mac baseball game at all. |

To the development staff, out of curiosity, have you informed any of the Mac gaming sites out the conversion? It would be a good way to gather attention, even if there is know release date. I have not seen anything mentioned at any of the sites.

Markus, Pace Anti-Piracy are pretty big dogs in the world of Mac copy protection. I remember them from my ProTools days; they had some problems when Steve Jobs decided to remove floppy drives from the Mac line on the dev equivalent of 48 hours notice (not good when your copy-protection scheme is centered around floppy disk-based keys), but they seem to be back on the ball, and offer hardware, downloadable, and/or floppy-based keys. Check 'em out.
Also, if I may briefly editorialize: many of the more fanatic Mac users are very picky about the appearance and interface of their computers and programs, sometimes overlooking its actual function. I know the previous sentence is just opening a can of napalm, but I HIGHLY recommend looking at how Mac programs set up their interface, and building that into your program. This can mean everything from adding cut/copy/paste functionality into the program to making sure the buttons look like Mac buttons to making sure the shadows fall in the right direction. I've actually heard different Mac enthusiasts in different situations complain about a program looking "too Windows." I believe Apple publishes documentation about their design standards, and what it takes to make your program look like it belongs on a Mac. They've probably retooled it lately to reflect their design of OS X; I'd suggest checking that out. The Macintosh community can be very picky and exasperating to deal with; but they are also industrious and loyal, and if OOTP can break into their market, it could be the start of something big. Good luck Markus!
