Soccer games like OOTP

Does anyone know of any soccer management games that can be customized like OOTP? CM and TCM seem good but they lack the fact that the data can be manipulated.

Thanks.

Football Manager is the best one out there. It does not appear that there any quality games in the football world with the customization potential of OOTP.

FM 2005 is an AWESOME game though not sure how user friendly the edit ability is, have not used it.

If you are into FM2005 and like soccer management games you should come to Germany. The development team of FM2005 is German and the German version of the FM is usually quite different from the US version in so far that it offers a ton of new features. For some reason EA seems to think that outside of Germany nobody would like a manager game which offers a solid simulation of pretty much everything that matters.

Also there are a number of other soccer managers (mostly older ones) from German development teams, arguably the best being Anstoss 3, which do lack a bit as far as graphics are concerned but which offer everything any soccer fan could dream about (stats, transfer system, youth teams, stadium upgrades/building, stadium surroundings with up to 100 different buildings, etc)

Sorry to disappoint but it doesn't

Apparently at the time it was released nobody thought anyone outside of Germany would care for a soccer management game. There also used to be a similar game for ice-hockey which was also a lot of fun.

Depends on which FM we are talking about, propably my mistake though. If you mean SI's FM then yes, however I thought you were talking about the FM2005 by EA which is produced by a german development team

Probably, but I have not seen anything that is as customizable as OOTP Baseball.

I used to post in the SI/CM forum, asking that CM be made more customizable, but the reaction from the CM players was very hostile.

"We do it this way because we've always done it this way," was the reaction of the official SI people. I was actually told that European players are not interested in having more options--they just want the existing game improved.

So, I guess in the English speaking world we have CM/FM and a few other non-customizable games, and that's that.

Strangely enough we're planning on moving towards more customisable leagues etc. at some point in the future - however its something which will take time to implement because of the huge complexity and variation in league rules in soccer (look into the brazilian, japanese and argentinan leagues for example).

So long term, yes it'll come about - however in the short term (ie. FM2006) no ..

I think that the reason for the lack of customization of games like FM and CM comes about from the time it takes to sim set periods of time. In OOTP I can sim a season in about an hour (if I wanted to go that quick). However with FM2005 it would take days to go through a season.

If you create your own leagues with fictional players, you want to be able to have many decades worth of play in your league to look back on and analyse. You just can't do this with the amount of time FM takes to sim.

FM does come with an editor but even w/o any editing the game is just too good to not play it.

To clear this up

Football Manager 2005 is developed by Sports Interactive, a UK based company

Fussball Manager 2005 (that name is only used in Germany) is not a Sports Interactive production.

The games are very very different. Sports Interactive allow the manager / head coach to concentrate on the important matters to do with the team and are known for their addictiveness
