I want to re-start the history of baseball - please help!

OK, I recently got back into playing OOTP6 ... I started a project before I moved to my new home here in Virginia ... the project involved blowing up and erasing all known baseball history ... of course, using OOTP6 as the basis ... what I need to know, and I know it's been tried before and done ... was what data set should I use and what modifications (stadiums, face packs, schedules, etc) ... would you all suggest me using? ... in other words, I believe I used Lahman (sp?) and forget the mods I used previously ... any and all advice would be much appreciated ... looking to start the solo league sometime before the weekend ... I am looking to complete the project in time for the new release in the fall.

I would suggest using Soxman's stadiums, with images. A search for Soxman should help - they are only available from his own webpage.

Database-wise, I reccomend either Ankit's database, or gambo's new one that brings people in during their first pro year (I don't know when it starts) rather than there first MLB year, i.e. when they were drafted. Note that that won't become an issue for some years after the start!

Logo-wise, www.ootpdownloadcenter.com is the place to look, as it is for facepacks.

Another option is to start in 1903 using the new roster set created (I'm really sorry to the designer who's name I have forgotten!) available at Joe Rock's www.ootpdownloadcenter.com .

Hope this is some help!

As with anything OOTP it depends on what you are after as to what to use or how to set it up.

If you want more variability in how the players develop and can live with Babe Ruth being only a pitcher, then use the Lahman database. If not, then use either Ankit's Career Average DB or his 5.2 DB. (According to his readme, the 5.2 is adjusted for park effects so you can use freely park effects in OOTP while you might not want to do that with the Career Avg DB.)

With any of the db's you need to adjust the catcher's PB rating and all fielder's range and arm ratings. (These don't import well.) You can use the stats at baseball-reference.com for that.

As for logos, stadiums, facepacks, etc. the OOTP Download Center is the place, as already mentioned. There's lots to chose from there and you can use what suits you. (Though the 1901-2004 uniform and the 1901-2005 cap logo sets by some guy named jdew I kinda like for this kind of thing. )

For schedules go to the mods forum and download Le Grande Orange's historical schedules. You'll have to be careful with the doubleheaders since OOTP doesn't really handle them quite right (if you sim away, you can easily have the same starter for both games.) To use the real schedule though its worth the intervention from time to time.

For the franchise changes that occured BruceM's Chronology here

http://www.brucem.net/BB_Chrono.htm

is a good source.

If you use financials, seriously consider keeping all ballpark capacities at around 45,000 or your teams will run out of money pretty quickly in those small 1900-1920 ballparks.

Hope that helps you.
