A 4 run 9th inning wasn't enough to pull a come from behind upset tonight. Hopefully it will be better tommorrow!

Maybe they can get an arm for the pen but would it be worth it IF Piazza can have that kind of season? That's a big IF though.
I guess they can bring up that catcher from AAA and test him out. I mean, Piazza isn't going to be around for long and we're going to have to find a new catcher sometime soon anyway right?

Wright is chasing so many low pitches right now. He'll be fine, but right now his approach is all out of whack.

That first inning by Ishii was rough to watch.

It's pretty sad to see Piazza now. It kind of reminds me of when Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter were having twilight seasons with the Mets. Here were these two guys that were real contributors to the team, and they were struggling just to get base hits.

Well, he was a good pickup for his productive years. I hope he goes into the Hall as a Met.

Wright's also getting busted inside alot. He'll adjust. His slow start has not affected him in the field at all, which is a good sign.

5 HRs of Padilla in 3 innings, including 2 by Diaz. If only that kid could hit

7 HRs. A team record. Sweet!

(Especially with Mientkiewicz on my fantasy team and Reyes a recent change to my fantasy team with 2 HRs)

Ahh. . . back to .500 and optimism.

Let me make my prediction for the year. 85 wins is my estimate. Just enough so that if they get 90 (Which seems to be the likely max) or 80 (With their bullpen) I won't feel too far off.

Go Mets!

Club record 7 homers. Wright hits the 7th, a grand salami. Diaz had 2. Where's Cameron going to play when he gets off the DL, lol. Heredia to the DL with a strained thumb. On the radio pregame, they were saying that the brass wanted Heredia on the DL when the season started but he wouldn't go. Now he has too. They called up Heath Bell, who was sent down when Heredia balked at the DL. Bell faced 20 batters at Norfolk and retired each and every one of them.

I like Bell and was upset he didn't make the squad out of spring. Hopefully he sticks.

If healthy (a big if with this crew), 85 to a peak of 88 wins is probably ballpark. But I fear health will falter somewhere along the line. 80 to 83 wins...call it 81-81. There are certainly still holes there.

PECOTA had the Mets going 81-81, right? Right on so far!

Trachsel, Benson, Cameron, Floyd............i'd say health has already faltered.

From where they were, .500 would be a nice jump. I too, if everything falls reasonably well, think 85 wins is a possibility.

What's amazing is 160K+ over the weekend homestand against the Marlins. They wanted to create a buzz and they have already. New TV network + Piazza's salary dropping = payroll room and I have more confidence in Minaya than the last few regimes to spend it well. That and the fact that Omar has talked about revamping the farm system bodes well for the franchise.

I say IF he has that kind of a season keep him, than unfortunaely Mike is done in NY, with the Mets. His 15 mil expiring should give us mroe money to track down other big time FAs. His trade value isn't too high right now, lets hope he gets solid numbers this season and help us. Oh yea, we need a better back up. Castro won't do it for too long.

From the Mets preview:

"I call it a sinker, so it will sink more."-- Reliever Heath Bell, who was recalled Tuesday, about the two-seam fastball he has developed.

Hopefully this hasn't been posted elsewhere.
For some reason, I find this hilarious.

So, is he saying that by virtue of calling a pitch a sinker, it sinks more?

I have been stewing about this for a few years now but am I on my own in saying that Fran Healy is the worst announcer in professional sports? Does anyone have the chance to watch him on FSNY (or MSG - forget which)?

He's absolutely terrible. I cringe every time. If I got AM radio in my house I would put WFAN on and listen - even if the timing wasn't right.

It really takes away from the game...

The worst? I don't know. He has a lot of competition there. He's not particularly good or anything. I'm pretty indifferent about him.

Actually, I'm pretty indifferent about almost every announcer unless they're on the radio. Their jobs are mostly redundant. Radio announcers are generally much better. I used to always watch games with the sound off and the radio on.

Healy is awful. Just when I think he can't get any worse...he goes and gets worse. Thorne and Rose are both excellent radio guys but as lgkeeper alludes to, the radiocast and telecast are not in sync.

While I'm sure some of us could give a more scientific analysis, I think he's saying that while the pitch is actually a fastball, he is trying to make it sink more. Hey, as long as he maintains his perfect record of *0* baserunners, he can call it a screwball if he wants.

Anyone wanna predict an over/under for how many runs Heilman gives up today? I say he lasts 6 innings and gives up 4.

I think he'll give up 3 in 6 innings. I didn't see his gem, just caught the end on the radio as I was heading home. I'm looking forward to see how he does with his old style of pitching.
