Red face All-star Crash - Please Help!

Hi Gurus.

I need some help. I have created a 1 league, 3 division, 14 team Custom League. It works great until the end of June when the game starts setting up the All-Star game. I realize that my league setup does not allow All-star games to be played because the divisions contain odd numbers of teams. Correct? So, I have reset/edited the schedule within the game removing the All-Star game and it still stops to set one up and crashes. I exported the schedule and manually edited it to exclude an All-star game ... import the CSV ... it gets to the end of June and starts the process again!

I'm tired of resetting my League only to have it crash again. Can anyone out there please help with this frustrating problem??

Ultimately, I'd love an All-star game, so if any of you know how I can have one with a 5-5-4 team setup ... I'd be forever grateful.

Also, I noticed there were no 'playoff games' in the schedule either. Why not?

I have tried running both 6.11 and 6.12 without success.

Thanks in advance!

ONE league is the problem, probably for both issues(certain about the playoff thing but not sure about the all-star).

Don't include it when you generate a sked - I think there is an option to omit it.

I wish I could say I hadn't done this, but I have. I've 'cleared' the schedule completely and generated a new one with 'All-star Game' set to 'no'. I have exported the Schedule as a CSV file and edited the days where the All-star break occurs (moving games ahead/back) to reflect 'no days off' at the end of June ... it somehow 'magically' stops for the All-star game.

BTW - the All-star game does not appear on the 'Schedule Report', or on the date the game crashes, or in the exported CSV.

Now what? I've been setting this League up for several months (if you recall) and just when I'm simming my first 'Official' season ... BAM ... it crashes!

I just don't understand why these 'known' problems haven't been addressed and resolved??

Do you?

Well, I have not KNOWN of this "all-star game issue" as YOU describe it until now. Other issues have been reported but I doubt you'll find ANY game where every issue is resolved to the satisfaction of all but many issues have been taken care of.

This is a real problem. Something seems to have happened between 6.10 and 6.12 that makes the game attempt to create an all-star roster on a given date, and if not before, it does it on the last day of the season. This makes the game unplayable with only one league, and is a new problem since the inception of 6.12 IMO.

The problem seems to be linked to CSV export/import. The only way to get round it seems to be to use a game generated one.

Ok...so you didn't KNOW about this particular issue. You do know about problems with 1 League and odd number Divisions, yet they still persist. Before this escalates, you need to realize that I am not attacking you or OOTP. I just don't understand how a game can offer the option of 1 League and odd team Divisions without addressing the All-star and playoff issues?

You are absolutely correct. I probably won't find a game where every issue is resolved. However, at $39.95 a pop (when I bought it), I would expect to find a 'baseball game' that doesn't 'crash' at 'imaginary' All-star breaks and actually simulates the playoffs.

I'm sure you would agree that those are reasonable features to expect in a 'baseball simulation' game.

I merely posted a question in hope that someone had a solution. I have tried everything suggested and more, but no success. Is there any possibility of seeing these major issues addressed, or should I just expect more quotes about OOTP's inability to 'please' everyone?

Thanks,

The "one league" issues are known and have been but "as far as I know" they are not possible to resolve in the game's current form. In future versions this maybe different but not for now.

I don't want to restate myself here (maybe I should start another thread?), but anway...

Sure, the playoff stuff can't be resolved but there is actually a new bug. For some reason, when you use the CSV import/export feature, it looks for an AllStar game even if you have specified you don't want one. If there is nothing there, it puts it on the last day of the season. This is a serious problem, as it will crash any league. As far as I am aware, this is new to 6.12, but is very serious for anyone playing with one league only because it means the death of their league.

I understand that, don't see it getting resolved before v7 but I will pass it on.

Cheers, Steve. I was just worried it would get lost in the midst of other facts.

I agree, and I'm pretty sure nothing can be done before OOTP7. It's just nice to get these things logged in case they somehow come back in 7.

I just tested this with a quick 1 league setup similiar to what was mentioned above. Of course there are no playoffs with 1 league but I also found no problem simming the entire season with both the default game created schedule or a csv imported one.

I used this schedule
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...504#post800504

Obviously just one test but it from it there is no issue with a midseason freeze up with 1 league using the new build. Perhaps there is another error in the csv schedule legs37 is using.

Legs37 - feel free to post your schedule csv and I will test it and see if I can get the same problem to occur.

Thanks Steve! I think the 'playoff issue' is easily resolved for those interested. Will this work?

There are two possibilities:

Option #1

1. Sim to the final day of the season, or until playoff matchups are determined.
1a. Choose 'Add Series' in 'Edit Schedule' (which can be done at any time during the season) and add the playoff rounds and number of games per round.

Option #2

1. At the beginning of the season, choose 'Add Series' in 'Edit Schedule' and add the playoff rounds and number of games per round. You can use any 4 teams to represent the post-season teams.
2. Choose 'Edit Schedule' (when teams are determined) to 'delete and add' games with actual post-season teams.

1st place
vs - 7 game series - 2 home, 3 away, 2 home (whatever makes sense)
WC winner

2nd place
vs - 7 game series - 2 home, 3 away, 2 home (whatever makes sense)
3rd place

Winner #1
vs - 7 game series - 2 home, 3 away, 2 home (whatever makes sense)
Winner #2

Winner = World Champs

Now if I could only bypass that 'All-star Game' ...

Thanks,

Question Volunteers ... Anyone?

Gents:

I can't bypass the All-Star Game regardless of numerous attempts using different solutions.

I'm using a 1 League, 14 Team, 3 Division setup. All Human owned.

Division 1 - 5 teams
Division 2 - 5 teams
Division 3 - 4 teams

Is anyone willing to load my League to try their hand at getting it up and running? I appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

Paul

Go into the game and select League Setup. From there look at the far right pulldown menu across the top - called League Setup. Choose "Edit Schedule"

This will take you to the schedule editor. select csv export and name the file something you will remember. Make a note of where you saved it on your hard drive.

Next click on post reply to the message you are reading here.

scroll down on the reply screen and you will see manage attachments. Click on manage attachments and then click on browse. Next in the browse window find the schedule export file you just saved. Click on upload and it will be saved. then type anything in the message field and click on submit reply.

thats all there is to it.
Any questions post them here. I should be around for a little while or someone else will certainly help you.
