Yeah, they're the ones rich enough to afford the good stuff. These poor borderline major leaguers can only afford the regular roids which are easy to trace and dont work as well.

Yes, his roid use was getting obvious.

In all seriousness, it's because of these guys that MLB needs to crack down hard on the Barry Bondses of the league (if he took steroids, I mean!), and also why the MLBPA ought to be right behind the push to do so. I seriously do not get why the players would be against a thing like this, other than the fact that the owners are now behind it and they are wary (for very good reasons). Whether the best player in the league hits 40 homeruns or 60, somebody is still going to plunk down $20M a year to sign him. With the exception of the (vastly overrated) extent to which those numbers draw fans themselves, player salaries are based on a mix of what teams have to offer and how badly they want a particular player.

Or, baseball could come out and say that they have no problems with people using 'roids. There are certainly compelling arguments out there that what players do nowadays increase their quality of life rather than decrease it (which amphetamines certainly did). Crap or get off the pot. That's what I say.

I think this is backing up something Canseco said. One of his big points is that steroids have different effects on different people and aren't for everyone. So the first two guys busted are nobodies that obviously aren't getting the big time bonus from the juice.

A story I saw on busted sprinter Kelli White got me thinking about this. She was a nobody and the juice really helped her (world champ). But there were other people in the championship race she won on the juice as well (2 others I know of tested positive as well). Obviosuly the juice really helped mediocre clean sprinter Kelli White a whole lot better than them. Stands to reason not every player, shoot maybe even most players won't see much benefit from it.

But I think there could be a handful of guys, for whatever personal physiological reasons, whose bodies are much more receptive to the treatments than others. Speculative, but Bonds, Canseco, and Caminiti could be prime examples of guys with the right body chemistry to take to the juice, while the two loser busted (and Marvin Benard if you believe the press) are guys whose bodies got relatively nothing out of it.

Trying to stir that one up again, good luck. I already tried the Pudge argmument and was rebuked with a bunch of "I'm sure he lost it naturally" or "this proves nothing"s. For every star accumulating a fair amount of circumstantial evidence there are a million fans ready to offer the same old excuses on their behalf.

Well, Rick Sutclife said during the game he broadcast yesterday that he has heard a big name is coming down the pipeline. What I want to know, is why isn't it being released immediately if it's true? Is MLB letting the player appeal first before it becomes public?

I am sure they are entitled to an appeal.
Same as you or I if we got popped, except we call it court and we go to jail.

I don't care what anybody says, pudge is/was a roid freak.

No way you lose 30 pounds in 100 days unless you have cancer or a stomach staple, period.

I don't know about MLB policy, but every drug program I ever had to play in had a re-test procedure where they create an alternate sample and re-test that one in case of a false positive and they have to wait for the second test results before proceding with any investigation. Maybe they are making sure all the tests are back first before making it public.
