Brian Sikorski
Watching the young Young on mlb.tv today (archive, baby!) brought back a few memories of rookie Rangers.
I don't know if anyone remembers this kid, Brian Sikorski, but he came up for a few starts in late 2000 with the Rangers, and on ESPN one Sunday Night he shut out the Yankees through 8 innings on his major-league debut. Predictably, he got rocked in his next few games, and never came back to the bigs. Well, I decided to check what happened to him! Code:
2001 CLM 12 games, 1-4 - 42 innings, 18 bbs, 36 ks 6.43 ERA 2002 CLM 47 games, 4-6 - 96 innings, 20 BBs, 102 ks 3.44 ERA 2003 CLM 47 games, 1-3 - 82 innings, 23 BBs, 71 ks 3.16 ERA 2004 YG 62 games, 5-3 - 77 innings, 22 BBs, 83 ks 2.67 ERA It's always pleasing when you find out a guy who you thought was finished the game is making a comfortable living in the sport. |

He did a fine job with those big helicopters, too!

I remember Chris Berman did the game that night, and kept calling him 'Chopper'? Is there some Sikorski reference? Was he the Airwolf of his day? |

Actually, it's Sikorsky with the helicopters. It's a Russian company. They are famous for the enormous "tanks in the air" helicopters used most prominently in Afghanistan, back in the day.

The signature product of Sikorsky is the UH-60 "Black Hawk" and its variants.

A joke was said that Yomiuri Giants' roster features 14 firstbaseman-DH/cleanup hitters (only) and 11 strarting pitchers.

I remember Sikorski just kind of falling off the map after that start. I knew he went to being a reliever in Japan, but don't think I ever followed how he did over there. Good to hear he's doing well.
