AOL/Time Warner apparently is selling off all of it's non media holdings including the Braves.

I heard something about this today on the Braves Show, some Atlanta Businessman called in making offers, it was pretty funny.

Wonder if they make a deal where they sell the team but still agree to pay all the player's contracts

Disney is selling off their teams, too.

There was a move by entertainment content companies to buy teams a while back as a way of obtaining low-priced content while making a profit, but the bloated player salaries have eaten all the profits and the damage that the players and the owners and Selig have done to the game has dropped its popularity and hurt the TV ratings. The smart money will now be selling teams, so the Angels and the Braves and the Ducks are all quietly on the block. I am surprised that the Cubs aren't on the block as well.

Side note: the Braves still have lots of seats available for all their home playoff games. You can get a block of good lower level seats to the first game for $30 each. For a 100+ win team to be in this position is not a good sign for baseball.

I don't understand this. Are Braves fans that complacent with the fact that they go to the playoffs every year? I live in Reds country and waaaaaay back when they were in the playoffs, I went to every game. Those games didn't sell out either. Baseball has gone way down hill if fans don't even want to watch the playoffs. Sad

Disney has been trying to unload the Angels for a few years (allegedly). Apparently the price has been too high to attract serious buyers as Disney is attempting to recoup their losses incurred over the past few years, as well as the money they sunk into renovating the Big A into Edison Field. Perhaps this playoff run will help make the purchase a more attractive one for some wealthy business people.

There are several teams that have never regained the attendance that they had from the '93 season after the strike of '94. The Atlanta Braves are one of those teams. I think that has something to do with it. Plus, the Braves always have to play the 1pm game, that doesn't help either.

A few years back, Bud doubled ticket prices to the LCS and WS to "compete" with the NBA and NFL playoff ticket prices. Just wanted to throw that in. I'll never forgive him for that and I will not pay $100 for a ticket either.
