Attn: Logo Designers - Logo #12 Vancouver Mounties - Favorites Compilations

Attn: Logo Designers- Logo #12 Vancouver Mounties Favorites Compilation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VANCOUVER MOUNTIES is Logo #12 to be designed for the Logo Favorites Compilation.

I researched Vancouver, but didn't find out anything very distinctive...city of 2,000,000...very properous...fastest growing Canadian city...shipping, forest, fishing industries...named for Captain Vancouver, an early explorer.

If you would like to design a logo, you have until Midnight Tuesday, April 5 at 11:59 pm CST (USA) to e-mail it to jnshmoo.

You may submit more than one logo...but please make them distinctly different from each other...and not just slight variations of the same logo

HIS EMAIL ADDRESS: ootplogo at jnshmoo.us
(You will have to take out the "spaces" and add the real "at" symbol...this is to cut down on spam to jnshmoo).

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A RECEIPT CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ENTRY WITHIN 24 HOURS, CONTACT JNSHMOO BY PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE). YOU SHOULD ALSO RESEND YOUR ENTRY TO HIM.

IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU GET YOUR ENTRY IN PRIOR TO THE LAST 24 HOURS OF THE ENTRY DEADLINE.

Size: 150 x 150 pixels

JPG FORMAT

The logo should be designed to show up well on the OOTPB screens.

RULES: DO NOT USE ANY EXISTING PRO SPORTS LEAGUES LOGOS.
A designer cannot use an already existing professional logo in the logo design and creation...it must be a new creation.

The time zone is Central Standard Time in the USA...my time zone.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR LOGO: 11:59 PM CST TUESDAY, April 5
For the time zone challenged, Midnight Central Time on Tuesday is:
(COMPLIMENTS OF THE TIMELESS WONDER, LE GRANDE ORANGE)

9:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday
10:59 p.m. Mountain on Tuesday
11:59 p.m. Central on Tuesday
12:59 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday
1:59 a.m. Atlantic on Wednesday
5:59 a.m. GMT on Wednesday

Vancouver Mounties was actually a AAA team in 1956. Maybe we should go to the next name. Here is there logo.

Specifically, it was in the PCL from 1956-62 and 1965-69. But it's too late to change the choice I think, and besides, I'm sure lots of inventive new ideas will be created for it.

Not to ruin too many of my ideas, but in case people don't know....'Mounties' refers to our RCMP - Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The City of Vancouver use their own City Police, but the Mounties name adds a good addition to Canada with the team name.

But the real trick will be to make a good-looking logo without using a Mountie in it, since using one is such an obvious design choice...

littlechris,

Sorry you don't like the choice.

The only stipulation was that the committee could not pick a nickname being used in any of the major sports leagues...NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL.

It was ok to choose minor league nicknames...even if they had been used by a town...as in this case by the Vancouver Mounties.

As an American, the first thing I think of when I think of Canada is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police...Sergeant Preston of the Yukon and his wonder dog, Yukon King...from my days of listening to him on the radio in the late Forties and early Fifties...I also think of the great CBS tv series, "Due South" and Benton Fraser, a honest, decent, courteous, intelligent and offbeat police officer, who talked to his dead father, who was also a Mountie...Fraser was assigned to the Chicago Police Dept...and I think of those two red-clad mounted horseman first when Canada is mentioned...then I think of red maple leafs...then I think of beautiful mountains and plains and wonderful scenery and wonderful people, who are our friends (even when they disagree with our politics and we with theirs).

I personally would be disappointed if a team with the nickname of Mounties did not show a red-coated Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman.

But it doesn't have to have it to be a good logo.

I am not dissatisfied with the choice, I just thought that the nickname had to be original that's all. I am dissappointed that I can't learn to use PSP as quickly as I'd like, so I may not have an entry this week either.

I can see how you got that impression...no offense taken.

I just noticed you live in Birmingham...I was born in Sheffield...and lived quite a few years in Mobile.

I wouldn't trade living in the south for nothing. I've been to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York and none compare to down here. I love it.

After checking out the other options, the Mounties is by far the best choice for Vancouver even with the PCL (and nearly an NBA) connection. Since I live in Vancouver, I am interested to see what the designers come up with for this one.

I am glad a native is not disappointed. Your comments are appreciated.

What would you have picked for a nickname if you had been on the Nickname Selection Committee?

Since you asked and not trying to second guess the selection committee, here are a few ideas off the top of my head:

- Totems (carved by Northwest Indians)
- Orcas (native to the region)
- Sockeyes (a type of salmon)
- Downhillers or Snowboarders (maybe not too good for a baseball team)
- Downpours (probably influenced by the weather outside & not too good for a baseball team)

Unfortunately, I have the misfortune of being at work right now and I guess my creative side has taken the day off. I usually use the Millionaires in tribute to the only team from here to win the Stanley Cup (90 years ago!).

I always thought Orcas would be a good name for a team near the Pacific.

Bump - deadline tonight.

Unfortunately it appears I won't be in this weeks' contest, my time has been limited lately and my ideas for this logo don't impress me much. I am very eager to see what some of the masters come up with, though.
