The Ultimate Baseball Federation: Albuquerque Conquistadors
The Ultimate Baseball Federation (T.U.B.F.): Albuquerque Conquistadors
I have wanted to start a dynasty thread for a while now, but never quite found the right moment. I either jumped into a league that had too many previous owners, which wouldn’t make it my dynasty. Or never found one I really wanted to write about. I also needed to have the dynasty come from an online league. Solo play leagues are fun and all, but in my opinion, Online Leagues are the way to go. If for nothing else, but the competition. I chose the T.U.B.F for a few reasons. First the league seemed to have a lot of potential. 20 teams would keep owner turnover relatively low, and competition relatively high. Secondly the History. The commissioner, Phenom on these boards, simmed 100 years before taking the league live. There are a lot of records to be broken, and a lot of history to learn about the league. Giving me something to write about when there is nothing else. It is also a relatively new online league, only having 1 owner previous to me for the Conquistadors. Finally it has streamlined rules and a dedicated commissioner. The League setups are very interesting. 2 divisions per league, 5 teams per division. There is a league championship series, as well as a world series. So only 4 of the 20 teams make the playoffs each year. Also the DH rule is being used in one league, the United. Next a little bit of history about my franchise. The Conquistadors. |

History of The Conquistadors.
Albuquerque is one of the winningest franchises in T.U.B.F. history. They have won 14 UL pennants (1906, ’09,’10, ‘13, ‘26, ‘45, ‘47-‘50, ‘60, ‘77, ‘97, ‘98). They also have 8 world championships (1910, ‘26, ‘45, ‘47-‘50, ‘98). So there is a rich tradition of winning here. The Conquistadors run of 5 world championships in 6 seasons from 1945 to1950 has not been matched. But it is hard to live up to greatness, and as the newest GM of a very proud franchise, it is my job to exceed this achievement. Some of the best players to have ever played the game have been Conquistadors. Elisha Berry. A 4 time All-Star, with 2600+ career hits. He was a part of the league champion 1906, 1909-1910 clubs. He won the MVP in 1912. Juan Mcintosh a 6 time all star. McIntosh was the Rookie of the Year in 1906 and Pitcher of the Year in 1910 and 1913. He was also a part of the 1906, 1909-1910 league championship team. Current career strikeout leader, Kevin Davis. Davis has won over 250 games and struck out 4400+ hitters! He was selected to 8 All-Star games, won Pitcher of the Year 3 times and he was on the ‘97 and ‘98 league championship clubs. 14 different players would win MVP awards for the team. Lon Loose and Odon Duenas were both repeat winners. 5 different players have won Pitcher of the Year awards. Herbert Lee won 2 in ’45 and ’46. Paul Smith won 2 in ’85 and ’87. And the aforementioned Kevin Davis won it in 1993, ’97 and ’98. But, in my eyes and a lot of fans eyes, the best player to ever play for Albuquerque was Odon Duenas. Duenas is the current single season home run record holder with 76 bombs. This record was set in 1983 and is still standing today. Interestingly, Duenas had only two 50+ home run seasons prior to this, 58 and 50 respectively. The year after the record was set, his power numbers dropped considerably and he would not hit more than 35 after this. He has 565 career home runs and 2700+ hits. He was quite possibly one of the best hitting second basemen to ever play the game. Duenas won two MVP awards, in 1978 and 1980. New players to Albuquerque are immediately impressed by the commitment to excellence that is present in all aspects of the franchise. From The Pennants that line the walls of Phoenix Metro Stadium. To the 8 Championship Trophies which are on display in the team’s Ring of Honor which surround the inside of the stadium. Each trophy is inscribed with not only the date, but also the players who played on those great teams. Conquistador greats have their final game jerseys also on display inside the stadium. A lot of players would love to play for the Conquistadors. But players, whose only goal is to get rich, are quickly shown the door. Winning is everything in Albuquerque. First Impressions of the Team
Well immediately upon taking the job on 9/14/2005, a couple of things stood out at me. The most obvious was the condition of my minor leagues. Each of my minor league squads, who surprisingly are unnamed (more on this later), was stocked to the gills with players. Most of them scrubs. I quickly purged the ranks and gave 24 players their walking papers. Their free ride was over. It is hard to teach good players when you have bad players taking away their playing time. I have a couple of average looking prospects, but no one that jumps out at me just yet. I also have to resign a few guys; I wasn’t going to totally scrap the club so I had to keep some key components. Namely 2B Nathan Restivo and CL James Tobin. Both are only 28 and have several more good years in them. My offers are sent to the commissioner’s office, Restivo’s agent was very cooperative telling me exactly what his client wanted. That makes my job a lot easier. The other players who are up for free agency are not worth resigning. I would love to resign Kevin Davis for sentimental value. But I am going to have to let him walk. He is already 40 years old and he needs to call it quits. He wants $2+ million for 1 year, which is cheap but I don’t think he can help us anymore. He leaves with his 1998 World Championship Ring and his untouchable strikeout record. Best of luck to Kevin Davis. Journeyman RF and probable Hall of Famer Fred Plasencia will also not be resigned. Our financial situation is in wonderful shape. No one is making a lot of money, so we have a lot of flexibility. Our fan base interest and loyalty are both very good and our TV market is Big. A good season will bring in revenue upwards of $100 million. We also have a lot of cash on hand, so expect us to play heavily in the Free Agent Market. We don’t have a whole lot in the minors, so we need to bring in some ball players. A glaring weakness seems to be Starting Pitching. Isn’t this always the case? If anyone is interested, I would appreciate some suggestions for minor league team names. I would prefer to keep the minor league teams in the general area of my Major League club. So somewhere in the South West United States. Or even Northern Mexico. Next up: League News Last edited by MogulChamp; 03-30-2005 at 04:33 AM. |

League News and Notes
Well my first day spent examining the other teams has led me to a couple of conclusions. There are no great teams, most are mediocre. None of the divisions have been clinched yet; so all 4 playoff spots are wide open. My division, the United League Pacific Division is currently being led by the Los Angeles Paladins. They have a decent shot at winning 100 ball games, so that will be something to look for. On the other end of the spectrum, there is one really bad team. The Newark Pilots. These guys have a real good shot at 100 losses. Newark is a perfect example of an offense first team. They have a great hitter, William Holifield. He’s batting .325 with 48HR and 107 RBI. He has a couple of other guys that are supporting him, but the team just hasn’t got any pitching. Their team era is 5.10. Dead last in the league. How bad is their staff? Well Pearson, Roudebush, and Dyar, their 2-4 starters, have gone a combined 19-55. Yikes! A couple of guys stand out on the leaderboards. Holifield is leading the UL in HR. The next closest only has 39. It is often the case, that great players are stuck on bad teams. I wonder if Holifield is for trade? About the only other noticeable number is closer Mauricio Munez. He pitches for the Oklahoma Total Domination. He has a robust 40 saves! Blowing away all competition. He’s only 30, and with a couple more seasons like this and he will crack the top 25 career leaderboard. A couple of guys are within range of moving up on the career leaderboards. Which, might I add, have some impressive numbers. These things are constantly changing, so I will only pay attention to changes within the top 10. To even get on these career leaderboards is an accomplishment of itself. Isiah Murphree of the Louisville Fire is 3 Home Runs from moving into sole position of #4 all time. He also is very close to moving up in RBI’s and Doubles. Murphree is perhaps one of the greatest forces to have ever played. More on his career later on in this dynasty. I don’t think anyone else has a chance of moving up, not with the season about ready to be over. I haven’t had a chance to delve into the record books yet, to see if any records are in jeopardy, so that will give me something to do while I wait on the next sim. Other than that, it is just wait and see what happens with the league playing itself out. Last edited by MogulChamp; 03-30-2005 at 04:47 AM. |

Well this is the first sim since I took over the team. Not much to discuss, as I really don’t feel it is “my” team just yet. Once the off-season hits, then things will definately feel right. I am looking forward to improving my team considerably, and drafting the first player of the next era in Conquistador baseball. Resitva and Tobin both resigned with the club. With the loss of Davis’s salary alone, I will only increase my payroll by around $2 million. But expect it to drop considerably, there are several big name free agents who appear to be heading to the free agent pool, so I should have some cash to land them. Looking at my minor leagues again, (now that they are thinned out), a couple of guys stand out. CL Brandon Simoneau is one. I am kind of worried about his development though, he is 24 years old and has been in A ball for 3 years. I think he needs to be pushed along and see if his ratings start to improve. Another guy I like a bit is SP Christian Clark. He has some potential but hasn’t been developed properly either. He is 24 as well, and has been in the minors for 5 years. Never past AA ball. Let’s hope the two of them don’t mind pitching in AAA next season. My lineup has a couple of decent hitters, but no real slugger. Currently I look for my 3-5 guys to be: Espy,Quevedo,Restiva. All are capable of getting on base a lot and hitting 20+ HR. CF Jose Fabian could also be used. He has pretty good gap power and the amount to resign him is pretty cheap. An offer was sent to his agent, so we will see if he accepts. He will fill the role of DH/OF. Not great, but with a better pitching staff, it should get the job done. My bullpen looks pretty solid, as does my defense. I am not so sure about this stadium though. It gives up a lot of hits, not many deep balls, but a lot nonetheless. It also seems to favor extra base hits, so they should be something to watch for. I seem to have decent range an arms in the OF so I should be ok. A couple of interesting tidbits this week in the league: The Division races are getting tighter. The ULA (United League Atlantic Division) is currently in a 3-team race for first. Baltimore, Boston, and New York are all within 3.5 games. Baltimore leads the division with an amazing 76-76 record. My favorite to win the division is Baltimore. John Sanchez is carrying that team on his shoulders. I have no idea how New York is even in the race. In the ULP (United League Pacific) it appears Los Angeles has pretty much got the division wrapped up, barring complete collapse. In the WLN (World League North) the two teams from Michigan are battling it out. Michigan leads Ann Arbor by 3 games. In the WLS (World League South) Florida is only 2 games behind Oklahoma. Oklahoma has gone 4-6 their last 10 and Florida 8-2. Looking at Oklahoma, it looks like they have a good shot at winning the division. William McClanahan and John McIntyre are the main reasons. They are #1 and #2 in HR in the WL. Amazing. We'll see if the two of them is enough to propel them to the World Championship. The last bit of news, has to do with some individual accomplishments. Alex Ammell hit for the cycle against Wichita. He was the 128th player to do that in league history (thanks for the quick stat Phenom). Well only a few more games to go and the 2005 regular season is in the books. We certainly do have some tight playoff races going on, with only 4 games left to play. There has been only one division decided, and that is my own ULP. Los Angeles won it easily with the best record in the league. They are favorites to win the TUBF Championship. In the ULA, Baltimore is hanging on to a slim 3 game lead. I don’t know what is going on with that division because I have just taken over, but nobody seems to want the title. Expect the winner of the division to be swept by LA. The WLN has been a battle between Michigan rivals for the past month or so. And things have swung in the favor of Ann Arbor. They have gotten red-hot at a perfect time and forced a tie by going 8-2 in their last 10. Michigan on the other hand thought they had the division and went 2-8. This division will be decided on 10/1 & 10/2. Michigan is at Ann Arbor so the loser will have no one to blame but themselves. The closest race still remains in the WLS. Centerville and Florida are both tied. Oklahoma has fallen to 1 game back with their 1-9 performance in the last 10 days. The Total Domination have looked pretty bad down the stretch. Their starting pitching has been a bit suspect and they are getting jumped on early. Ann Arbor took it to them 9/20-9/22, outscoring Oklahoma 24-4. Ouch. Not a whole lot of excitement here for the Conquistadors. I released a few more scrubs, and my contract extension offer to Jose Fabian was accepted. It was a pretty cheap deal for a good utility OF/DH $1,520,000 for 3 years. Fabian has a career OPS of .754 and he hit 22 Home Runs this year. Only time will day if it was a good extension. Also, the first player to win an award since taking over was LF Robert Espy. Espy batted .500 with 2HR and 8RBI. Very nice. It’s also his first individual award; let’s hope there are more. I think that Espy is a pretty underrated player and I hope that he develops a bit more in the off season, because he does have a lot more room to grow. He can be a pretty good offensive player, as well as an above average fielder. One thing that concerns me are his stats vs. LHP. For a switch hitter, he just can’t seem to hit Lefties that well. His career batting splits seem to indicate the same. For a guy with that much potential, I hate to have to platoon him, but I may have to do so next season. This was the final sim of the regular season for all but 2 teams. Yep, we have a one game playoff. The rivals from Michigan; The Aces and The Lumberjax will be playing each other to decide the winner of the WLN. The Jax have won their division 3 straight seasons, and the TUBF championship last season. I predict that Michigan will once again prevail and win the division, and face Florida in the WL Championship Series. Florida clinched their 3rd division title in 4 years. If Michigan should win, this will be the 3rd time in 4 years that they will play each other for the WL Championship. The World League Champion has won the TUBF Title each year: 2002 World Series Winner: Florida, beat Seattle 4 to 3 2003 World Series Winner Florida, beat Los Angeles 4 to 1 2004 World Series Winner Michigan, beat Dallas 4 to 3 There will be a lot of drama involved, if they do meet again. The previous two times they met, Florida won. 4 games to 3 in 2003, 4 games to 2 in 2002. The World League South was a very tough division this year, so Florida has to be the favorite again, no matter who they play. Centerville and Oklahoma both finished with 90+ wins and still didn’t make the playoffs. Incidentally, Centerville had endured 7 straight last place finishes until this year. Congrats to them on their GM on turning it around. In other league news, Baltimore won the ULA with an 83-79 record. The Batallions have now won 4 straight division titles! The Deacon, is looking to atone for his horrendous playoff performance last season. They will be playing the ULP winner, Los Angeles. The Paladins hit the magic win total of 100-62 and have the best record in the league. This will be a rematch of last season’s ULCS. Los Angeles won the series last season 4 games to 2. Individual News and Awards: Players of the Week Ending 10/03: UL 3B Bernard Burr (LAP) WL 2B Aaron Badgley (LOU) Batters of the Month of September: UL Francisco Rios (SEA) WL John McIntyre (OKL) Pitchers of the Month of September: UL Samuel Barragan (ALB) WL Mario Larrick (CEN) And Finally... One of the greatest players to ever play the game will be retiring at the end of this season. Isiah Murphree. Murphree is one of, if not the best CF to have ever played in the TUBF. He played from 1983-2005. Career:
Murphree has 4 MVP Awards (1992, 1995, 1996, 2001) Won World Series with Ann Arbor (1986), Newark (1991, 1992, 1995) Was Rookie of the Year in 1984 Won Gold Glove in 1989, 1992, 1999 Hit for the Cycle 6/23/1987 Was selected to 9 All Star Games ('89, '91, '92, '94-96, 99, 2000-2001) Ranks in the top ten all-time at: #2 in SB, #3 in 2B and Runs, #6 in HR and RBI He also missed 2 full seasons due to injury. Who knows how good he could have been had he not been injured. In any event. He is definately a player who comes along once in a lifetime. Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-05-2005 at 04:32 AM. |

Minor League Notes:
I am always on the lookout for young, unknown players so I like to make it a habit of watching minor league activity. It is always nice to find a diamond in the rough. Of course I always keep tabs on the big names, but I have never really kept up with the no names of the league. As I was perusing the leaderboards, I decided that I would recognize a few players who had good seasons in the minors, but first... There was 1 guy, whose stats were amazing. But I don't think he will ever make the majors. Charlie Chess. Charlie has pretty much been a career minor leaguer, but he should maybe be given a chance. His stats for the last 5 seasons:
The following players had very good seasons in the minors. Let's hope that by putting thier names in lights, they become all-stars OF Anthony Goldberg- Goldberg is a late 1st round draft choice. He batted .338 with 23 HR in AAA this season. SP David Dubuque- David went 16-8 throwing 217 innings. He had 3 complete games, 2 of them shutouts. SPJason Moberly- Mobley had 200k in only 177 innings in AAA. 3BSantos Jiminez- Jiminez has been in A ball the last 3 years. This year, he began to get better. He batted .300 with 23HR. 3BEvilio Martinez- Martinez hit .311 with 40HR and 36 doubles. He also knocked in 119. CFMark Lund- Lund batted .314 with 31 HR and 41 doubles. SP Johnny Smith- Smith is a real innings eater. He pitched 200 innings, but 7 complete games. LFSteven Goheen- Goheen has been in AA the last 4 years. This year he batted .326 with 18HR 42 doubles 16 triples and 34 stolen bases. RFJustin Tomomi- Tomomi is one of the fastest guys in the entire league. He also has a great eye. He was: .276 avg .390 OBP 81 bb 38sb 5cs. Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-05-2005 at 04:58 AM. |

Well the regular season is in the books. After a one game playoff, Ann Arbor has clinched their first WLN title since 1994. This game was never in doubt for Ann Arbor. The fireworks started in the very first inning with a 2-run shot by Aces #3 hitter, 1B Thomas Clark. The Aces would not look back and would win the game 5-2. Clark was named Player of the Game, and singlehandedly was the difference maker in runs. He was 3-5 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. With this victory, it will set up a League Championship Series between Florida and Ann Arbor. The last time these two teams met in the LCS was in 1985. It was a thrilling series with Florida winning in 7 games. Lastly, there were a few records that were broken this season. Congrats to the new record holders: Charles Pastore (BAL)- Sets new Baltimore single season record for At-Bats with 659! Edison Dave (Dal)- Sets new a new Dallas and UL record for games with 109! Emory Tsang (SD)- Sets a new San Diego record for hits in a season with 224! Alfred Robinette (SEA)- Sets new Seattle single season record with 270 K’s! David McSherry (AAA)- Sets a new WL and Ann Arbor single season record for games with 117! James Bigby (SSM)- Sets a new Sault St. Marie single season record for games with 113! Urbano Guzman (LOU)- Sets new Louisville single season record for games with 100! Darren Delp (LAP)- Sets new UL Strikeout record with 296! Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-16-2005 at 11:43 PM. |

Baltimore 83-79 SP Harold Pascarella 16-8 3.09 era @ Los Angeles 100-62 SP Clayton Lazar 15-4 4.06 era Los Angeles is coming into this series as heavy favorites and are seeking to get back to the World Series after a short respite in 2004. Baltimore is seeking to get to the World Series for the first time since 1979 when they lost to Florida in 6 games. Even though this is their 4th straight ULA title, the Batallion are still not favored. Game 1 is a good looking pitching matchup featuring the ace of the Baltimore staff, Harold Pascarella. He is facing the Paladins #2 starter, Clayton Lazar. Lazar had a breakout season winning 15 games. It is also his first full year as a starter. The game is no contest however, and Baltimore jumps out to a quick 8-1 lead. They were led by Player of the Game C Darryl Morelock, he went 3-4 with 2RBI. LA did try to get something going in the 8th but it was too late, even with a 5 run inning. Final Score: Baltimore 9-6 W: Pascarella (1-0) L: Lazar (0-1) S: Mendez (1) Pascarella once again proves that he steps it up in the postseason. He is now 8-2 with a 4.80 era in postseason play. Lazar on the other hand continues to struggle. He is now 2-2 with a 6.75 era in the Post season. Mendez picks up his 7th career post season save. The Deacon, one of the TUBF's most feared hitters continues his post season woes, going 0-4 with 1bb and 2 runs scored. 10/6 WLCS Ann Arbor 83-80 SP Asdrubal Grajeda 15-8 3.75 era @ Florida 96-66 SP Terry Kinlaw 14-4 2.01era Florida comes into this series as favorites as well. They have been one of the most consistent clubs in the TUBF for the past 6 or so seasons, and they won the World Series in 2002 and 2003. Ann Arbor on the other hand is new to the post season experience. This is their first LCS appearance since 1994. The jitters for Ann Arbor are apparent, especially for SP Grajeda as he gets roughed up for 6 runs while only recording one out. His line? .1 ip 6er 162.16 era. It was a complete and total hitting display, with not a single run being scored via the long ball. Kinlaw on the other hand continues his dominance, going 7.1 ip with 8k 0er. Final Score: Florida 6-0 W: Kinlaw (1-0) L: Grajeda (0-1) Grejeda continues his horrible play in the post season. Combined between Ann Arbor and Oklahoma he is now 1-4 with a 6.43 era. Consistency is the key for Kinlaw, he is 5-3 with a 2.96era! Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-18-2005 at 07:04 PM. |

Baltimore 84-79 SP William Barks 14-15 4.13era @ Los Angeles 100-63 SP Darren Delp 21-5 2.77era Well anyone looking at this pitching matchup will give this game to the Paladins. But in the words of Chris Berman, "That's why they play the games." Barks was knocked out of the game in the 6th inning after giving up his 3rd run and making the score 3-2 LA. Delp once again put on a clinic and was dominating until the 8th inning, when The Deacon hit his 2nd home run of the game. It then all fell apart for the Paladins. Delp is one of the nastiest pitchers in the game, and he doesn't enjoy giving up home runs (maybe because he gives up so many of them). He was in 10th in the TUBF, 6th in the WL, with 28HR given up this season. Immediately after the Home Run he plunks LF Scott Doiron and the Paladin manager pulls him out of the game. Reliever Jerry Cousar then gives up an RBI double to Michael Banton, sealing the victory. Many in the media questioned why Delp was left in the game to pitch to The Deacon again. No comment of the loss came from the Paladins manager. Final Score: Bal 5-4 W: Manriquez (1-0) L: Delp (0-1) S: Mendez (2) This loss is one of Delp's worst post season outings:
Things are beginning to look grim for the team I predicted to win it all. The Deacon finally had a good post season performance and was voted POG. He was 2-4 2HR 3rbi 10/7 WLCS Ann Arbor 83-81 SP Victor Suarez 15-10 2.31era @ Florida 97-66 SP Carl Santiago 17-11 2.87era This one figured to be a good pitching duel and it was. The score was tied at 0-0 until the 5th inning. When Florida takes a 2-0 lead. The Aces really had their best chance in the 7th inning, as Santiago began to get tired. But he showed once again why he has been one of the most dominant pitchers the past 6 seasons. Pitching: Carl Santiago 2B Blake Hardcastle: SOLO HOMERUN down the left field line. (347 feet) RF Alex Amell: DOUBLES down the left field line. 3B Hernan Trujillo: Base on balls. C Stephen Burgess: SAC BUNT. Mototsune advances to third. Trujillo advances to second. PH Gaylord Hall: Strikes out looking. PH Jimmy Bayne: Strikes out looking. Inning over... one run, 2 hits, no errors. Score: Florida 2, Ann Arbor 1 The Ann Arbor manager made all the right moves, but Santiago was just too much for his batters. Hall was .321 as a pinch hitter with an .808 ops. Bayne had been consistent off the bench as well at .319avg with a .756ops. This was the last chance Ann Arbor would have. Santiago went 8 innings with 4 hits and 10k's. Final Score: Florida 5-1 W: Santiago (1-0) L: Suarez (0-1) Santiago has been dominant as well in the post season:
His opponent Suarez did well in his first postseason appearance, but not good enough. He went 6ip with 3h 2er 1bb. Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-18-2005 at 07:17 PM. |

10/9 ULCS
Baltimore leads the series 2-0 Los Angeles 100-64 SP Robert Stewart 12-8 4.26era @ Baltimore 85-79 SP Lucas Silvera 13-11 3.00era Back to Baltimore they go, with the suddenly unstoppable Batallion taking a 2 games to none lead in the series. And what a game it was. A great pitchers duel between two mediocre pitchers. Silvera pitched a gem. 7.1ip 5h 1r 11k. Stewart was lucky to get out of the game with his line; 5.1ip 5h 6bb 1r 7k. But the bullpens decided this one. LA was once again down 2-1 going into the top of the ninth and Baltimore decided to put in the reliable Roberto Mendez, who was going for his 3rd save in this ULCS. We take you to the play by play announcer for the Paladins, "In steps the first batter in the inning, Bernard "The Turtle" Burr. Bernard has been tearing it up lately, and was player of the week the last week of the season. And now the pitch... First pitch changeup, and Burr gets all of that one. Track. Wall. Goodbye. New Ballgame!" The excitement would be short lived though. In the bottom of the ninth Baltimore would win the game with a sacrifice fly: Pitching: Steven Barnard DH George Astudillo: New 2B: David Reyes. SINGLES to left New pitcher: Franklin Moore. SS Stephen Byfield: PH Michael Banton: Base on balls. T. Kimmell to second. RF Carlos Martina: SAC BUNT. Kimmell advances to third. Banton advances to second. 1B John Sanchez: Intentional walk. LF Scott Doiron: Flies out to right-center. Kimmell tags up at third... He scores without a throw. The usually reliable Franklin Moore could not stop the Baltimore rally. He walked The Deacon to load the bases and create a force opportunity at any base, but Doiron would knock in the winning run. Final Score: Baltimore 3-2 W: Mendez (1-0) L: Barnard (0-1) 10/9 WLCS Florida leads the series 2-0 Florida 98-66 SP James Berwick 9-4 3.19era @ Ann Arbor 83-82 SP Zachary Wareham 13-13 4.11era Well this one looked to favor Ann Arbor. They were at home with a veteran pitcher on the hill. They still lost. The Aces took a slim 1 run lead into the 8th inning, only to see it melt away in an instant. Florida had 10 hits in the game, all singles! Florida is proving that pitching wins championships. Final Score: Florida 3-1 W: Berwick (1-0) L: Wareham (0-1) S: StJean (1) Player of the game Berwick: 7ip 5h 1er 2bb 5k. StJean atones for his horrible 2002 playoff appearances. Baltimore leads the series 3-0 Los Angeles (100-65) SP Dannie Stonecipher 7-8 5.81era @ Baltimore (86-79) SP Benji Feijoo 5-5 4.05era Wow. Baltimore is 27 outs away from their first World Series birth since 1979. The crowd was pumped, the team was pumped. Their fate rests in the hands of a 30 year old, back of the rotation pitcher. Most of his minor league career was spent as a middle reliever. But he is one of the hardest throwers in the league. Unfortunately for Baltimore, it was not to be. The young unheralded Dannie Stonecipher shut them down. He pitched maybe the game of his entire career against Baltimore. He went 8.1ip with only 2er. It didnt help that the Paladin offense came to life in a big way. Los Angeles had the best offense in the whole league: Batting AVG: .282 (2nd) Homeruns: 204 (1st) Walks: 556 (6th) Stolen Bases: 114 (6th) Runs Scored: 923 (1st) Their offense was lead by Charles Sauter and Bernard Burr. They combined for 73 HR and 221 RBI. But they weren't even the story of the game. It was the 10 runs scored by the 3rd inning! And POG Effren Calleja, who went 4-4 with a double, home run and 5 RBI. His teammate "Ace" Collins had a great day as well. Going 2-5 with 2HR and 4 RBI. Final Score: Los Angeles 13-2 W: Stonecipher (1-0) L: Feijoo (0-1) 10/10 Florida leads the series 3-0 Florida (99-66) SP Leo Pineda 15-6 3.69 @ Ann Arbor (83-83) SP Andres Osborne 9-11 3.87 Watching the Florida Threshers since joining the league has proven the saying that "pitching wins ballgames." They have truely dominated and demoralized Ann Arbor. They are well on their way to forming their own dynasty here in the 21st century. Their commitment to winning has been on par with my own club. But they have done it in a quiet, almost workmanlike way. They expect to win every game out, and with their rotation it happens a lot. This game was no different than the other 165 games this season. Solid pitching and timely hitting. Florida did hit 2 solo HR in the game; Francisco Palermo in the 1st, and Ahmed Seymour in the 2nd. But once again the POG was SP Leo Pineda. Leo pitched a complete game shutout going 9 innings with 3 walks, 5 hits, and 3 strikeouts. Final Score: Florida 3-0 W: Pineda (1-0) L: Osborne (0-1) Florida wins the series and advances to the TUBF Championship. This will be their 4th appearance in 6 years. Whoever they face, they certainly have experience on their side. Last edited by MogulChamp; 04-19-2005 at 03:23 AM. |

Heh. Just my luck. Due to personal reasons the commisioner (Phenom) has had to fold the league
He offered the file for download for solo play, but like I said in my opening; solo leagues are not for me.*sigh* I guess I have to find another league to start a dynasty thread about. Thanks to those few of you that read this, and thanks to Phenom for his hard work setting up and running the league. Best of luck to you in the future. |
