CatoBase and Invalid Use of Null: Specific problem, specific help?
I'm doing a historical replay, and just finished 1947. I import all the league files, and that's OK. When I create the win shares, I run into an error when it is assigning pitching win shares. Everything goes smoothly until it hits "Assigning Pitching Win Shares: 1946 DET" and the error message "Error 94: Invalid Use of Null" pops up. I click ok and it goes on, but no pitching win shares end up being created.
Any idea on what this is? I know it could result from having 0 IP and more than 0 ER, but then why would it have a problem with the 1946 Tigers when it was able to output it fine when I output CatoBase after 1946? I figured this means there would be a problem with the pitch_career.csv file, since it has new stats for 1946. I'm not really sure what exactly I'm supposed to edit in here. Also, there are always pitchers, a ton of them, with 0 IP and more than 0 ER. I even checked my almanacs, and the 1946 Tigers didn't have any pitchers with 0 IP and +0 ER. Any ideas? If I can't fix this, that would seriously suck, since I have 46 years of the league already done, and it took a long time. Last edited by DamnYankees; 03-25-2005 at 11:53 PM. |

If you have MS ACCESS, sort the pitchers by IP for the 1947 season. If you see one with 0 IP and more than 0 ER then add the .333 IP. You stated that you have tons of these in your database? This would be unusual. In 80 seasons of my WBL, I have had this occur only 3 times and each time it blew up in CATO and I did the fix and moved on. Win shares can not be assigned to players with 0 IP, but the program tries to assign WS to any pitcher with runs scored against them. This will blow up each time the 0/+0 error is present. Also check for a player with this criteria who has been traded to or from the DETROIT team.
Hope this helps. |

The problem is not in the CSV files, it is in the CATOBASE table. Sort the table and the bad record will stand out.....this is usually the problem (about 90% of the time).
Plenty of access, LOL.... |
