F***ing fans in KC-Chi Sox game

Two guys just came out of the stands and beat up on the Royals first base coach ... what is baseball coming to?

These two should be in jail for a while ...

The KC players just ran over and started kicking the crap out of those two morons.

Pitiful, really ...

That to me is grounds for Chicago to forfeit its first game since Disco Demolition night.

Edit - To explain Security is the Home teams responsibility and if they can't provide a safe playing environment the game should be forfeited to the visitors (in this case Kansas City)

I assume you saw the footage ...

That kind of crap should not be happening - the guy who got punched looked at least 60 years old.

Does anyone know of something similar ever happening before?

Should they have forfeited: I don't know. It may be debated after the fact. I can't think of a precedent for this so I really wouldn't know what to expect them to do.

I think the Sox should reevaluate their security - the KC players got there before security did ...

Edit: typo

What did the guys do, run out of wives, girlfriends, dogs and cats to beat up on? Lots of jail time for them.

Haven't seen the footage yet.

Similar occurrences have generally seen players being taunted by the fans and then going back after the fans in the stands. LA had an incident like this in Chicago a couple of seasons ago.

Boston had an incident like this in Yankee Stadium in 1986 when a fan stole Jim Rice's hat. The almost the entire Red Sox team save Marty Barrett went after the fan (Barrett said "Somebody had to watch the bats").

Neither game was forfeited... so there really isn't precident... but if the fans coming on the field then that is simply inexcusable.

Basically two shirtless guys ran out of the stands and started beating up the Royals' first base coach. He fell to the ground, and shortly after the entire KC bench was all over the two guys.

Completely unprovoked.

The coach was okay, but he walked off with bruises on his head.

By the way KC is one pitch away from winning the game ...

I am following the game on gamecast now.

I should revise what I said. If I were the umpire I'd check with manager Tony Pena. If Pena wanted to play I'd have the game continue. If Pena expressed any reservations about his teams security I'd forfeit the game to Kansas City.

But that's just me.

Edit - Fortunately KC won anyways.. although Hernandez made it pretty close putting the tying run on second.

I think this would have been an appropriate thing to do.

I was watching the game when it happened, and, unless I missed something, I don't think this was done.

Tom Gamboa is in his early fifties.

What a disgrace to baseball this event was. The game just keeps on degenerating and reaching new lows.

Sick. Supposed "hightened security" after 9-11. Bull. What if they would have had a knife? Violence is for animals, not human beings.

ESPN is reporting that a knife was found on the spot after the altercation.

"Gamboa said one of the Royals told him a knife was found at the scene.

'I heard one of the guys say there was a knife. I was stunned, so I was checking to see if I was stabbed and didn't realize it,'' he said."

Anyone who would harm a human being, unprovoked, is scum.

Whoa there, big fella, how about settling for locking them up? Gamboa wasn't killed...the absolute worst that you could charge those two slimy boneheads with is attempted first degree murder and in all 50 states that's a crime punishable only by a prison sentence.

I don't like what they did either but vigilante justice can be just as wrong as crime can be.

Don't take me so literal. Obviously I'm not going to put a slug into their heads. I am, after all civilized.

CNN shows the knife in back pocket.

Be sure to check out CNN. They show the knife in his back pocket... scary thought.

I am a lifelong Royals fan. What happened was incorrect, and wrong of course....and the statements here are well said.

But, sometimes......you just get angry. With all the stupidity in the world.......you wish you could just throttle people.. Maybe something will come of this.

I hope.

I hope baseball does something about this......before someone is TRULY hurt.

I blame no one but security ......the players of both teams came to aid.......and that makes all the difference......Stunned is what I saw......on faces......

Keep the faith people.

Yogi.

Man, I'm a pacifist but... That picture on cnn.com of the white trash father yelling at the cameraman triggers some instinctive "break his nose" reaction in me.

It shames to be a Chicagoan tonight. It really was embarassing to see it happen, my only saving grace ( and it aint a great one ) is that as a Cub fan, I can point to the Sox and shake my head at their fans... although our altercation with the Dodgers was embarassing as well.....

To bad you can get all the beer you want at the stadium, and you cant find one stand that sells common sense....
