JWay-- Montreal is still contending.. they figured out they had a better chance w/o Floyd...

Jared
You guys are making him out to be a bad player. He was probably the 2nd best on Montreal after Vlad, maybe 3rd after Vidro. Wait and see what he does in boston. Don't give him 2AB's and trash him b/c he doesnt do what you want him to.

I personally think the Red Sox got a major steal by trading two flameout "stuff" prospects for a prominent slugger in Floyd.
Garciaparra, Ramirez, Floyd. That's nice!

Song might develop into a starter but I don't see Kim being more than a relief pitcher.

Just think...in another year the Red Sox will have given Montreal 3/5s of their starting rotation...

Bartolo Colon
Javier Vazquez
Tony Armas
Tomo Ohka
Seung Song (or whatever his name is)

Don't forget we also sent Carl Pavano...

And on the Troy O'Leary issue - We have Manny in leftfield - why the hell would we want O'Leary anyways? Floyd is just another piece to winning the Wild Card.

I'm a Red Sox fan - I know we won't beat the Yankees.

The Yanks could have Jose Lima as their staff ace and Dean Palmer as their best hitter (or just the entire Tigers roster), and we'd still lose to them.

First off, I love the Red Sox and have all of my life growing up in Rhode Island and now living in MA. And I hate the Yankees with a passion. All this lovey dovey bulls**t about how nice the Yankee players are and how Jeter and Nomar are good friends, doesn't fly with me baby. I jumped for joy when the D Backs beat Rivera and the Yankees last fall.

With that said, you have to realize that most Red Sox fans (I'd say 2/3 of them) are brutally optimistic. I, after 30 years on this earth, as a Red Sox fan have come to accept and expect the June swoon followed by the wilting of August. It's part of summer in new england just like dead grass, tourist season on the cape, and chowda and fried clams at Aunt Carries (Rhode Island).

The Yankees have assembled what is probably the best offensive lineup since the 99 Indians or the 75 Reds. Once their 3 big starters (Roger, Moose, Pettitte) regain their form in late august it will be garbage time, they will blow the Sox away gaining a 10 game lead. Nothing about the Yankees tells me that they will be a weaker team down the stretch run on August and September. As much as I hate to admit this all, it is merely the reality.

Ofcourse, there's definitely going to be a work stoppage and a WS cancellation so who cares, this season doesn't count anyways.

Floyd was in a little slump with the Expos .... of course he was told to his face that he wouldn't be traded from the Marlins, then found out he was on ESPN's bottom line .... maybe that had something to do with it .... let's see ... Pavano, Armas, Ohka, Song, Kim for Pedro, Uggie, and Floyd .... not too bad ... like I said earlier I'd rather of had Thome, but I for one am happy to have Floyd

of course they are in the best position to re-sign him now ..... it's funny seeing an Indians fan dogging the Red Sox, weren't the Tribe mathmatically eliminated in May? of course they did trade for all those great young players so they'll be good in 2010

we trade all our players and don't make the playoffs

you trade FOR supposed good players, have a much higher payroll, and don't make the playoffs

that's not a 'curse', that's just plain dumb management.

now all the talk about manny is how his contract makes him untradeable - gotta love it

just curious how Floyd all of a sudden isn't a good player ... just because the Sox didn't make the playoffs??? .... why would they want to trade Manny??? .... so because the Sox tried and didn't just sell out all the season ticket holders who bought tickets at the start of the season only to see the team dismantled in May, that makes it dumb management .... well even if they lost them at least my team was playing meaningful games in late August and early September .... I suppose I could be pissy and make fun of all the other teams that got players for the stretch run and failed, but it's hard to make fun of teams that try to win and don't .... must've made all the Tribe fans a little irritated when your cross state rivals with 1/2 the money to spend went out and got players to try and make the playoffs, oh wait they didn't make it so that's dumb management ...
