Designer preferences for logo requests
I'm planning to start a new league and I'll be posting some logo requests sometime soon. I'll be using myths and folktales as the inspiration for the teams and localities and I thought about using the following format to request the logos.
* I'll post either the story or a link. For example, this Chinese creation myth. Quote:
* I'd prefer that no city names are used as I'm not sure yet how I want to handle them. The stories will either be short or well known, e.g. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, if longer. I plan for this to be a small league; so, there will be no more than 12 teams. At this point, I'd like to get some opinions on the format. Would the extra creative freedom be cool or would the lack of concrete direction be a pain in the neck? |

Just my two cents worth...I am not a logo designer...but I have posted about a hundred requests and gotten all of them in a reasonable length of time.
This is what I have found to be effective for me. List the requests one at a time and put the name of the logo in the title of the thread...asking for 10-30 at a time seems to take longer to get them done (unless knuckler, nmleague, pepeda, illeracula, Cooleyvol, Tequilaworm, FastLane or Cardinal Rule go on a tear..those are the most prolific ones these days)...sometimes a few will get lost in the long threads. People on this forum in general don't read long posts or threads. If you do list them all in one thread...edit the list regularly and remove the ones that have been done...that way the designers know the ones that are still needed and they don't have to read through a long list or go through the whole thread to find what has not been done. It can take a while...sometimes a week or so...to get one done. Just keep bumping it when it gets to the bottom of the first page...don't let it get to the second page. List what you want in the first part of the request...place your story line at the bottom...if they are interested, they will read it...if they just want to do the logo, they have their instructions in the first part of the post. Post a sample logo that you like. Give specific instructions...this seems to help them know what you want and cuts down on revisions...I also tell them to do it anyway that like, too...just in case they like to do it their way. Always thank them...even if it is not what you want...be polite and courteous...I always try to make a positive comment about each logo. When you post a request, check it often to see if it has been done...posting a request and coming back a week later is not a good idea. The designer would appreciate knowing your opinion of his work soon after he posts it. Our logo designers are really skilled and great people. We are very blessed to have them. Sadly, they come and go...we have lost a lot of great ones...but we always seem to get new ones to replace them. Good luck on your project...it sounds very interesting...looking forward to the threads. Hope my suggestions help. Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-11-2005 at 05:49 PM. |
