I think they'd go to the record against the tied oppponents.
Say if the Rangers, Athletics, and Red Sox tied for the wild card... The Rangers were 12-7 against the Athletics The Athletics were 3-6 against the Red Sox The Red Sox were 7-2 against the Rangers.... I think the A's would get eliminated, and then the Rangers would as well due to records against. Either that, or the last two would have a one game playoff. I'm not too sure though, just making a guess. |

A coin toss is held, the winner of the coin toss has the option to be the visitor in the second game, or the home two for both games. A second coin toss is then held with the winner getting the option not selected by the winner of the first toss. The loser is the visitor for the first game. Example: Teams A, B, & C tie Team A wins the first toss and elects to be the visitor of the second game. Team B wins the second toss and will be the home team throughout. Game 1: C @ B Game 2: A @ Winner of Game 1. If the three teams are tied for the Wild Card, but two of the teams are tied for the divisional title.... then the team not tied for a divisional crown is in the playoffs, the other two teams have a one game playoff with the winner advancing and the loser SOL (1/2 game in back of the other team). Incidentally if two teams tie for the Division but the second place team would be the Wild Card anyway, then they stay tied.. MLB doesn't care... and they use season record to determine the seedings. This is why both Houston and St. Louis have NL Central Penants flying for last season. |

OOTP handles it by taking the top two teams on the list and putting them in a playoff with the 3rd team SOL.
If you want to handle it accurately you must schedule the tiebreaker on your own and then the game will take care of it. |

So it comes down to the alphabet...
In my next MLB league, I think I'll be Anaheim Edit- Maybe not. In Maelstrom, A 3 way tie occurred for the AL wildcard. In the wildcard standings list, it goes Boston, Toronto, KC. So I guess tied records aren't listed alphabetically. [ 05-16-2002, 02:46 PM: Message edited by: JML ] |

Yep, that's how you currently break a 3-way tie.
Now, if you're in the pre-1969 MLB era, then things get more complicated. Since 2-way ties were broken with a best-of-3 series, a 3-way tie would've been broken with a round-robin series of games between the 3 tied teams, with 2 losses eliminating a team. Don't even ask about 4-way ties. |

Scott,
So if we have a three way tie, we could schedule games before the playoffs and then the game will take the winner of the games as the playoff team like it is supposed to? |

Either way, what it boils down to, is if we want realism, we have to schedule it ourself. Thanks |

yes, but if you do schedule it, OOTP will make sure the proper team advances at least.

![]() But in my scenario with the Red Sox, Athletics, and Rangers....another team could win the AL West, leaving the A's and Rangers tied for second and for the wild card with the second place Red Sox. So how would THAT get resolved Mr. Smarty pants? He asked about a wild card tie, not a divisional tie. There's a difference. |

![]() . I answered the question in the first part of my post... the Houston - St. Louis stuff was mainly bonus information for you to do with as you see fit.In otherwords the blah blah blah part I mentioned was the answer and you took the wrong part of the quote when you labeled me incorrect. ![]() Your answer was still wrong (sorry)... see the first part of my post (with Teams A, B, and C ) for how major league baseball handles it.
