The names of the cities in my fictional league, some of which I've gotten from fictional sources, are: Arlen, Brennen, Eastwick, Lawson, Middleton, Oakdale.

I have a spreadsheet of all of the city names in the US. They might be useful if you are looking for "non-traditional" city names. Some of them at least sound fictional...

Pick a tree name - any tree name, then add either wood, dale, field, creek behind it. Example OAKDALE, MAPLEWOOD, PINE CREEK.
Pick nature - add field, ville, view or a persons name behind it. Example SPRINGFIELD, MEADOWVIEW, LAKE CHARLES, ROCKVILLE.... Select a US President and add ville, or heights, or park. EXAMPLE CLINTONVILLE, LINCOLN HEIGHTS, KENNEDY PARK, or leave the name be the city - MADISON, JEFFERSON, BUSH..... |

I have a ten team fictional league with the following names:
San Diego Beachcombers - named after my favorite bar in Mission Beach Las Vegas Gamblers Miami Smugglers Camden Criminals - after Camden was recently listed as the most dangerous city in the country. Minneapolis North Stars - after the North Stars of the NHL that left for Dallas. Dallas Outlaws - I wanted to use Cowboys after watching the movie Tombstone, but that's already taken. Omaha Tornadoes Birmingham Barons Clearwater Cannonballers - I did a cannonball run to Clearwater 6 years ago. Can't remember the last team |

Pick a state and use city names just from that state.

Team Nicknames.....
I have a been using a spreadsheet that has over 700 names in a table. The nickname will have a value by it for the number of chances that the name will come up.
The spreadsheet has a front worksheet that you enter the number of teams that you have in your league. Press CTRL-SHIFT-L and a list with 5 columns of names appear. Say team one is from MILWAUKEE, and row 1 has the following names in it. ROCKIES, SMOKERS, RED SOX, FALCONS, GOLDEN EAGLES. This gives you 5 names to chose from. I usually pick the default in column 1, but sometimes the name does not fit the team and I then select the next value.......Very easy to use... I have attached the file but it does REQUIRE MS EXCEL XP and the analysis pack loaded. It may also work with EXCEL 2000 but I am not sure..... To USE simply enter the number of teams then. hit the CTRL-SHIFT-L and a list of names will appear.... Last edited by SandMan; 04-18-2007 at 12:15 PM. |

That doesn't have Terror Lake, New Horrorfield or Screamville. Hardly comprehensive.
