Help For A New User
I just downloaded OOTP6 and am reallly excited to get started. Couple of questions I would greatly appreciate any help from all you experienced users.
1. How would I go about creating the Washington Nationals? I live in DC and want start out using them. I know I can change the team name but what about the stadium, etc? 2. Does anyone have any recommendation on a good roster set to use? One that is up to date for MLB and has a good ammount of real prospects in the minors? 3. I had one friend who claims to have gotten a virus from downloaded rosters in the past for this game, not sure if there are ones out there that are safer than others? Thanks for all your help, I am looking forward to playing! |

1. The easiest thing to do is just modify the Montreal team to the Nationals.
2. Check the mod section. Some pretty good ones there, including all for one install. 3. With anything you download off the internet you should use a virus scan on it first.

I'd highly recommend the All In One installer. It's not updated for the Nationals (I think) but this thread should come in handy.
As for viruses, I've never heard of a problem but I do worry from time to time. I'd just say know your source. You don't have to worry if you're download something from www.ootpdownloadcenter.com (a great place for all your needs) or something posted by someone with a number of a posts. If you're really worried about a virus, when you start playing online leagues only join leagues that have been around a couple seasons (of course, you might want to do that either way ).Have fun with your new game and be sure to come back with any questions. However, many of your questions will have already been ask and answered many times. There's a button called search up the right which may come handy (for example, I searched for RFK to find the Nationals stadium info). EDIT: I think this is the most up to date roster but it doesn't have the all-in-one features.

Welcome
Welcome ahayek!
Lucky you. You have bought a really fantastic game. I'm still pretty new with it myself. For starters, you will want to go to www.baseball1.com and download the Lahman baseball database. OOTP works great with it and it allows you to import any season since 1901 into your OOTP game. It has recently been updated with 2004 stats. As for creating the Washington Nationals, it is not that difficult. I don't have the system in front of me at the moment or I'd give you step-by-step how to do it. You will want to change the team name (from the Expos), but you will also need to make sure that the team has the proper abbreviation on the team set-up screen for future imports with Lahman. That is not an immediate concern, of course. As for the stadium. OOTP handles stadiums fairly abstractly, but you will need to know roughly how the stadium the Nationals will (maybe?) play in compares with some others in the league. Then you can create a new one. It's not diffcult but I'll let some of the more verteran players explain it or point you to another place on this forum where the answer resides. You will discover this forum to be invaluable as you learn the game. I come here daily and never fail to find something of benefit, however small. OOTP has a great support community and this forum enhances the value of the game even more. That said, I encourage you to use the search feature on this board. It will take you to many answers you seek. Welcome again!

However, folks have reported that their virus program thought OOTP (or maybe a roster set) contained a virus. This is typically just a false positive. Its rare, but occassionally virus programs do sometimes report false positives. Lots of people had this issue with a certain virus program right after OOTP6 was released I believe (or maybe one of its patches). |
