My game's at home, but from what I can remember, his talents went up in power to (Con/Gap/HR/Eye/Avoid): 80/ 80/ 131/ 55/ 50

He's still in AA, but if he maintains as he develops, he'll be a monster.

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 9, ISSUE 2

SEPTEMBER 25, 1909:
It looks like Philly will be going for the trifecta. Predictions of their collapse this season fell far short of reality. They continue to dominate the AL, and may very well do so for the next few years. The double play combo of Napoleon Lajoie and Joe Tinker are one of the best, leading with words as well as actions. Lajoie is getting older at 35, but he has shown no signs of flagging. They are unlikely to repeat, though, with major injuries to Eddie Plank and Charlie Chech. Both will miss the entire World Series.

The St. Louis Cardinals are led by a player whom many say is the heir apparent to the Athletics' Lajoie ........Will Miller II. Unfortunately for the Cards, he is hobbled with a Pulled ACL and will likely be unable to return until after the postseason. He's young, so this probably won't be his last World Series. Cards' fans are confident that the absence of their NL batting champ will not impede their march to the crown. Time will tell who will win this contest with so many key injuries.

PROSPECT WATCH

ROY HOBBS
: Hobbs had an average season that ended with a whimper as he broke his ulna. He continues to avoid the talent he undoubtedly has.

WILL MILLER II: It looks like the scouts were right. Miller had a breakout season, winning his first batting title and leading the Cardinals to the World Series. Too bad he was injured in the last week of the season. He'll miss the entire World Series.

Top Pitchers:
Ed Smith - 13-9, 2.86 ERA, 87 K
Billy Milligan - 12-3, 1.93 ERA, 42 K

NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (90-64)

Team Batting Average: .257
Team ERA: 2.76

Top Batters:
Emmitt Heidrick - .261, 90 RBI, 15 SB
Harry Arndt - .276, 74 RBI, 30 SB

Top Pitchers:
Willie Sudhoff - 25-8, 2.24 ERA, 116 K
Jake Thielman - 22-16, 2.64 ERA, 94 K

Both teams are hobbled by injuries that completely change the makeup of their lineups. The A's will miss the services of Charlie Chech and Eddie Plank, their two top hurlers, while the Cardinals are without the services of batting champ Will Miller II. it will be up to the backups to perform, and I feel that the experience will carry Philadelphia to a 3rd consecutive title.

PREDICTION: Athletics in 7

I may have been a few years off, but I was still right
Too bad he'll miss the World Series though.

Batting title again next year, and a championship

1909 WORLD SERIES

9/26/1909 - GAME 1 CARDINALS 7 - ATHLETICS 2

The Cardinals stuck it to "Death Valley Jim" Scott, the surprise Game 1 starter for the A's, placing them in the unfamiliar position of being behind in the World series. Branch Rickey hit the back breaker 3 RBI double in the 6th.

9/27/1909 - GAME 2 CARDINALS 1 - ATHLETICS 7

Every A's batter had at least 1 hit as they tied the Series up. Napoleon Lajoie was solid with a 3 for 4 performance.

9/29/1909 - GAME 3 ATHLETICS 7 - CARDINALS 5

Zaza Harvey had a great game for the A's with 4 hits, sparking a 5 run 7th to lead them to their second win of the Series.

9/30/1909 - GAME 4 ATHLETICS 7 - CARDINALS 5

"Death Valley Jim" Scott redeemed himself by allowing only 5 hits in a 1-0 squeaker. Napoleon Lajoie knocked in the only run in the top of the 3rd inning.

10/1/1909 - GAME 5 ATHLETICS 5 - CARDINALS 3, 15 innings

It took nearly 5 hours, but the Athletics finally shut the door on the Cardinals for good in this extra inning marathon. That's 3 in a row for Philly. What a dynasty!

1909 WORLD CHAMPS - PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS
3rd Championship

SERIES MVP: Billy Milligan 1-0, 1.50 ERA, 11 Hits, 18 IP

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 10, ISSUE 1

JANUARY 1, 1910:
As we come to the end of the first decade of this 20th Century, we have witnessed the game of baseball grow from a local obsession, to a lucrative busines...a "national pastime", if you will. The Philadelphia Athletics are the most popular squad in the game, and more folks recognize pictures of Napoleon Lajoie than the president of the United States. They should still have a couple years left in them before age takes its toll.

Prospect Watch: MIKE O'DONNELL

This solid young Irish bloke isn't flashy at all. He's what some call the "salt of the earth", just winning games with steady competence. Some may call him taciturn. We just call him damned good. He has a knack for inducing groundballs. With a good infield defense behind him, he could very well be devastating to opposing batters. Not many longballs will escape the yard when he's on the mound, and with the increase in the power game, this talent could become even more valuable to his future team.

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 10 ISSUE 2

SEPTEMBER 25, 1910:
After last year's valiant effort in attaining their third championship in a row, many people thought that it was a final hurrah for this Philadelphia team, but it appears that they still have some tricks up their sleeves, squeaking past the Cleveland Bronchos in the last week of the season. say what you will about the Athletics, you can't deny that they have heart to spare. Their third World Series vs. their nemeses from New York should prove to be quite special.

Last year's champions from St. Louis fell victim to a sophomore slump, allowing the Giants to roar back and reclaim the pennant, while they plummeted to 5th in the NL Standings. Ty Cobb has become the top batsman in the NL, and Christy Mathewson returned to form with the help of the erratic Jim St. Vrain, who found his groove just in time.

JAKE SCOTT: Scott should be called Scrooge. He is one of the stingiest pitchers in the game today. Imagine his record if he played on a dominant team.

JOHN "HOMERUN" HEINZ: Due to a monstrous start in AA, the Browns brought Heinz up to test him out in late April, but they quickly realized he needed a bit more seasoning. He spent the rest of the year in AAA, and he is expected to compete for a spot in the bigs in 1911.

MAK DOLNICK: Dolnick is getting a reputation for being a bit unpredictable, both on and off the field. He had a superb month in May, but his performance in August and September were quite weak. All in all, it balances out to a solid season, resulting in his first All-Star selection.

JOSE "BLACK DIAMOND" MENDEZ: In a surprise move, the White Sox sent Mendez to the struggling New York Highlanders for SP Big Jeff Pfeffer and LF Jack Dunleavy. He was utilized mainly in the bullpen, but the development of his pinpoint control ensures that he will eventually satrt on a regular basis.

MIKE O'DONNELL: O'Donnell rose through the ranks in the minors. he pitched one game in AAA, but was so wild that mangement dropped him back to AA where he thrived. A couple more years and he could be quite the special pitcher. When he's on, it's nasty at the plate.

THE CHRONICLE - 1910 WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPION: PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS (88-66)

Team Batting Average: .269
Team ERA: 3.14

Top Batters:
Napoleon Lajoie - .327, 80 RBI, 18 SB
Harry Lumley - .284, 79 RBI, 54 SB
Jack Hayden - .321, 69 RBI, 17 SB

Top Pitchers:
"Death Valley Jim" Scott - 19-16, 2.99 ERA, 137 K
Billy Milligan - 16-11, 2.82 ERA, 103 K

NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: NEW YORK GIANTS (92-62)

Team Batting Average: .277
Team ERA: 2.88

Top Batters:
Ty Cobb - .365, 106 RBI, 70 SB
George Stone - .309, 75 RBI, 29 SB
Bill Sweeney - .306, 66 RBI, 26 SB

Top Pitchers:
Christy Mathewson - 28-7, 2.03 ERA, 222 K
Jim St. Vrain - 21-13, 2.54 ERA, 149 K

This is not the same dominant Athletics team we have become accustomed to see in the postseason. Eddie Plank is out for the season with a ruptured elbow ligament, perhaps endangering his career, and the rest of the squad is getting old. New York , on the other hand, has two aces in Mathewson and st. Vrain. The 3rd time will probably be the charm for the Giants as they try to end the Philadelphia dynasty.

PREDICTION: Giants in 6
