Ballpark Create Factors Question(s)
I am doing some work on enhancing the spreadsheet that takes park dimensions, wall heights, type of turf and foul ground size (developed by soemone here don't remember who) and creates the park factors for 2b, 3b, HR and BA.
So far I want to add field conditions (bad say like a poorly maintained grass field with lots of bumps, holes etc, or a super astro turf field in perfect condition), ballpark carry (i.e. Coors Field or someplace where wind always blowing in), and hitters background. This is all based on a formula. Current version says to use -5 to +5 for turf and would, For turf a - # subtracts and + number adds the value from the factors for 3b's and BA. I think it should be the following: Grass: Very fast +5, fast +3, above avg +1, avg 0, below avg -3, slow -6, very slow -10 Turf: Very fast +10, fast +7 above average +4, avg +2, below averge 0, slow -2, very slow -5 For foul ground agains suggests -5 to +5 with number being subtracted (i.e. large fould ground would be a 5 as more chance of catching it) from avg. Can't think of anything to change here. For ballpark carry was going to use a -10 to +10 range with +10 being a Coors field type or winds always blowing out to -10 for say playing in very humid place or Wrigley on day wind blowing in. Know for sure I want it to affect HR (add to HR factor), but maybe 2B's (ball carries well so those drop in singles become outs?) and BA with value being subtracted from factor? Hitters background also in -10 to +10 and affect BA only? Field Condition also -10 to +10 with # subtracted from BA (i.e. on good field not as many bad bounce singles and affect BA (maybe 2b and 3b too with number being subtracted so a crappy -10 field would lead to more 2B/3b due to bad bunces, etc?). Would like your opinions/thoughts.....
