Note: Note: This version of Rating Translator is not compatible with previous versions (eg. V0.80b and v0.81b). This means that the old versions of rating_translation.csv can not and should not be used with the new version.
Note: If you are new to this utility, please read the manual (can be found in program file shortcuts) first. Even if you are already familiar with the old version of this utility, I still strongly recommend you to read the readme/manual file since there are quite a few changes from the old versions. Note:If you have previous version installed, it is strongly recommended that you uninstall any previous version of Rating Translator. ************************************************** Note: CommishJoe's CSV Exporter v1.01 is required to be used prior using this program. (The CSV files generated from the CommishJoe's CSV Exporter are used as the input data files here.) Also, special thanks to CommishJoe for making the CSV Exporter. This mod wouldn't have been a reality without his wonderful add-on mod. Note: The {players.csv; bat_stats.csv; pitch_stats.csv} are used as the data source for translator.bat to generate the rating to stats look-up table. The {players.csv} is used as the data source for scout.bat. The above mentioned files are the CSV files needed from CommishJoe's CSV Exporter. Version: 0.92b -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Change/Fixes in v0.92b - Expected performance projection model is somewhat tweaked/changed in order to improve the performance projection accuracy. - Double to triple ratio is now changed from the previous fixed league average ratio to become dependent to speed rating. This means that 2B, 3B, and SLG projection is now more accurate. * The above two changes demand necessary changes to rating_translation.csv. As a result, this version is not backward compatible with previous versions of Rating Translator. The users must perform “Translator” function (stats to rating mapping) again when switching to the newer version. - More performance projection metrics are added. Performance metrics such as FIP, ERC, and XR are added. This is provided to give a more comprehensive look on the player’s expected performance. - Fixed the “contact=0” known issue. This is achieved by both changing the code associated with reading CSV files and implementing an illegal CSV data source input protection. The input protection will prevent illegal value inputs (eg. rating values < 1). For more details, please see section 6 “Known Issues”. - True independency between “Translator” and “Player Scout” function. Simultaneous scouting for multiple leagues is now fully supported. This is done to provide support for multi-league scouting. In previous versions, “Player Scout” function is only restricted to the last league data files used by “Translation” function since the path argument is internally stored and passed on to “Player Scout”. Now, there is a separate path argument for “Player Scout”. The end result is that you can use “Player Scout” while jumping from league to league. - Manual has been almost completely rewritten in order to provide more helpful info. For anyone who is using this utility, I strongly recommend that you read the manual. In this version, I have also provided tips and tweaks for improving the accuracy of Rating Translator. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, This is a add-on utility mod specifically created for OOTP6. And this is also my first attempt (second public version) to in add-on utility mod creation. The purpose of this add-on is to translate the players' ratings into stats (expected performance). The translation between ratings and the expected performance is a problem that has no easy answer. The rating to stats translation needs to be done within context, not depending on pre-determined translation formulas. The actual translation depends on league total setting, rating itself and also the opposition rating. In short, pretty much every league will have its own unique rating translation formulas. This program is designed to perform the translation dynamically. The utility program attempts the rating translation by constructing a rating/actual stats loop-up table and then calculating the regression formula (best-fit line) for each rating/stats relationship. By doing this, the rating/stats translation is guaranteed to be tailor-made to the individual league setup. As metioned above, the tanslation formula is generated from the rating translation look-up table. The construction of the look-up table is done by list the x-y table between the weighted-average of ratings and weighted-average of stats. Then the rating to stats translation formulas are calculated by using regression method. After that, the expected stats performance of the user desinated player is calculated. A sample output of the program is demostrated below: Code:

Note: If the talent rating scale is different than the ability rating scale, then the talent translation will be incorrect.

For more details of the mod, please read the Manual.rtf via the program startup menu shortcut. This is the second major public build of the program. Bug fixing and further expanded functionality will be considered in the possible future version. All feedbacks and suggestions are extremely welcome. Please provide all feedbacks and suggestions in the official OOTP forum. I only have basic programming skills, so I don't think the original mod was pleased to the eyes and such. However, with the addition of GUI wrapper written by Eriq Jaffe, I do believe this mod is not only quite functional and serves its purpose well but also quite easy to use. Anyhow, please enjoy this add-on mod for OOTP. Special thanks to Eriq Jaffe for making the terrific GUI wrapper for this utility program. With the addition of GUI, this utility has improved enormously regarding to user friendliness. Special thanks to Markus for creating such a wonderful game! Special thanks to every other mod maker in the OOTP community and the OOTP community in general! The knowledge that I learned through the OOTP community has helped me in continuing improving this utility program. I have now also come to the real understanding that it's really takes a lot of efforts to create mods. Special thanks to YOU for choosing to use this add-on mod! Get it here!!! Rating Translator v0.92b Special thanks to Joe for hosting the file on OOTP Downald Center. Thanks everyone, Jayzone |

Stats Glossary for stats included in Rating Translator v0.92b:
This section is taken directly from the stats glossary section in the manual. For batters: PA - Plate Appearances AB - At Bats H - Hits 2B + 3B - Sum of doubles and triples 2B - Doubles 3B - Triples HR - Home Runs BB - Bases on Balls (Walks) K - Strikeouts AVG - Batting Average OBP – On-Base Percentage SLG - Slugging Percentage OPS - On-Base Plus Slugging Percentage XR – Extrapolated Runs XR = (0.50*H) + (0.72*2B) + (1.04*3B) + (1.44*HR) + (0.34*(HP+BB-IBB)) + (0.25*IBB) + (0.18*SB) + (-0.32*CS) + (-0.090*(AB-H-K)) + (-0.098*K) + (-0.37*GIDP) + (0.37*SF) + (0.4*SH) One thing to note here is that Rating Translator currently has no prediction model for HP, IBB, SB, CS, GIDP, SF, and SH yet. So this also means that these components in the formula will be ignored (as assumed zero). *XR/27 – Extrapolated Runs per 27 At-Bat Outs This is a simpler version of XC/27 (Extrapolated Runs per 27 Outs). Only outs occurred during batter own at-bat is counted. Other outs, such as DP, CS, SH, SF, etc. are not taken into account here. *XR/27 = XR*27/(AB-H) This stats should not be used as a direct comparison to the player’s real XR/27, but rather should be used as performance indicator compared to other players’ *XR/27. Generally speaking, *XR/27 will be of a higher value than the real XR/27 due to that fact the extra outs are not counted in *XR/27. For pitchers: K/BB - Strikeout/Walk Ratio AVG - Opponents Batting Average OBP - Opponents On-Base Percentage H/9 - Hits per 9 innings K/9 - Strikeouts per 9 innings BB/9 - Walks per 9 innings HR/9 - Home runs per 9 innings WHIP - Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched FIP - Field Independent Pitching This statistics is created by tangotiger and it can be used to derive a close approximation of DIPS ERA. The calculation of FIP is much simpler than the traditional DIPS ERA calculation. FIP = (13* HR + 3*BB – 2* SO) / IP The lower the number is, the better the pitcher is in the measure of defense independent pitching stats. True elite pitchers will have their FIP below zero. In other words, FIP can be explained as such: ERA = FIP + DERA FIP is the portion of ERA that not dependent on defense and DERA is the portion of ERA that is dependent on everything else (defense, pitching, luck, etc.) More info on FIP can be found on tangotiger’s website and Major League Baseball Graphs for its discussion: http://www.tangotiger.net/drspectrum.html http://www.baseballgraphs.com/blog/c...id=P36_0_1_0_C Typically in modern leagues, the league average FIP will be around 1.20, league average DIPS ERA will be around 4.40, and league average DERA will be around 3.20. This means that you can estimate the pitcher’s ERA by adding 3.20 (average DERA) to his FIP to obtain DIPS ERA estimate. However, this utility will calculate FIP ERA for you automatically already by dynamically calculating the league average FIP and league average ERA. FIP+ - Field Independent Pitching Above League Average This is the differential in FIP relative to league average FIP level. This can also be seen as the differential between pitcher’s FIP ERA and league average FIP ERA. The lower the number this is (negative), the better pitcher’s FIP is when compared to league average. FIP+ = (pitcher FIP) – (league-average FIP) eg. FIP+ = (–0.52) – 1.20 = –1.72 This means the pitcher’s FIP is above/better than league average at 1.72 This stat also represents how much better is the pitcher’s FIP ERA relative to league average level. (Pitcher’s FIP ERA) = (League-average FIP ERA) + (FIP+) Or if you prefer, (FIP+) = (Pitcher’s ERA) – (League-average ERA) So, if a pitcher has FIP+ of –1.72 and league average ERA is 4.40, then the a pitcher’s DIPS ERA will be roughly 4.40 + (– 1.72) = 2.68. FIP+ = 0 means that the pitcher is exactly league average in terms of FIP. PERA – It is named as Peripheral ERA, but this is actually a DIPS ERA Projection based on FIP. Or if you prefer, this is FIP ERA. (Well, if you must know the reason that I named it PERA instead of using FIP ERA directly, it is because “FIP ERA” is way too long to fit into the program output screen.) As explained above, this ERA projection is based on FIP and the formula is the following. (Pitcher’s FIP ERA) = (League-average FIP ERA) + (FIP+) ERC - Component ERA Bill James’ component ERA. Since pitchers’ HBP ratings are not available in the CSV output files from CommishJoe’s CSV Exporter, I have opted to use the league average amount of HBP. Note: My personal experience is that a pitcher’s ERA value is usually between the predicted FIP ERA and ERC. Also, there is often some noticeable difference between the predicted FIP ERA value and ERC value. This is probably related to the accuracy issue of rating translation model. |

I just tried out the v0.92b on another computer today and it seems there is something missing from the installer package to prevent the program running properly. It turns out that the missing file (kixforms.dll) will cause the program failed to lauch for the first time Rating Translator user.
The fault is mine during making the installer and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience/annoyance/frustration that it may have caused. I have already submit the fixed installer to Joe and I will make the anouncement here once the replacement installer is up and running. For those who are having trouble with v0.92b, I again apologize for the trouble and thank you for your patience.

Joe has updated DownloadCenter with the fixed Rating Translator v0.92b installer so the updated file is now up and running.
Re-downloading and re-installation is only needed for those who are having trouble lauching/starting the Rating Translator v0.92b program (most applicable to first-time Rating Translator user). If Rating Translator v0.92b works fine on your computer, then there is no need to re-download and re-install. Thanks for your patience. p.s. Thanks, Joe.
