Problems importing players

Hi, I'm new to the game, and have been trouble importing real players. I've tried with two different databases, and had no luck..everytime I do it, when I am loading my league, the game crashes. I have to completely uninstall and reinstall.. Could someone please post a step by step instruction on how to do this, for newbies? Preferably with the lahman's database if possible..
