Someone convince me to watch the Super Bowl

A few bars will be showing the game even though it will be late at night here.
I don't feel the game will be very close and I don't particularly care for professional football anyways.
And then the halftime show...
30 minutes that I could be doing something else.

Anyone want to try and change my mind?

Nope. If you wanna watch it, if you don't want to then don't watch it.

I feel like I am sort of missing out an a world event. A small part of me feels guilty for watching 90 seconds of highlights when I wake up monday morning.

It's not a world event. It's a sport based essentially in just one country.

Plus, if you don't want to watch it, don't. I won't. I'd go have a beer with you and talk about how the Braves contributed to the demise of the Expos.

It is a world event. Tens of millions of people outside the United States watch the Super Bowl every single year.

Well, what I meant is that the event itself involves two teams who play all their games in the United States, whose employees are likely something like 99% based in the States, etc.

Others are merely watching. In fact, I think American football is probably the most hegemonic sport that the North American public cares about. Baseball draws a lot from Asia and Latin America. Hockey is very popular in some European countries. Basketball, if I'm correct, is starting to get out of North America (guh). I'm not saying that it's a bad thing - just that the NFL's players are massively Americans.

Now that is a definition issue

Basketball is begining to get out of North America? It's been very, very popular in Europe for half a century or more.

Shows how much the game bores me.

And, well, it further proves my point.

That football is an American sport? I don't disagree.

That the Super Bowl is not a world event? I still disagree

The Super Bowl involves very, very little people outside the States. The tens of millions of viewers are just that.... viewers. They are not involved in the game, really.

Depends on how you define it. By your definition, the World Cup Final wouldn't be a world event, just an event for the people who work in the stadium of the host city and the players and employees of the two countries teams in the final. I would call it a world event, you wouldn't. No big deal.

The World Cup final involves two teans from different countries. It's the final of a competition that involved people from many countries, with referees from all over the world, it's organized by an international federation. It's not like the NFL where practically the only thing going out of the US is the tv feed.
