Commentary -knockdowns
Commentary -knockdowns
Some of the commentary we now see xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx XXXX lands a violent shot under XXXX's ribcage and XXXX instantly drops down on both knees. XXXX lands a thudding shot under XXXX's ribcage and XXXX crumbles like stale bread. He's down on both knees. XXXX absorbs a wicked cross to the head. He's staggering backwards and now he goes down in a heap. XXXXlands a vicious combination and down goes XXXX! XXXX has been knocked down with a strong combination! Wow! That shot landed like a lightning bolt! XXXX is down on his back! XXXX rains a combination of blows to the head and body of XXXX and XXXX tastes the canvas here in Round XX! XXXX walks into a cross and he's down!!! XXXX has been knocked down with a strong cross! XXXX lands a perfect cross and XXXX slumps to the canvas! A solid hook drops XXXX on his back! XXXX absorbs a wicked hook to the head! He's staggering backwards and now he goes down in a heap. There's a devastating cross to the head of XXXX. It came out of nowhere and XXXX drops to the canvas! It's the punches that you don't see coming that do the most harm, and XXXX looks hurt. XXXX comes over the top with a right hand....that punch lands right on the button! XXXX is down! XXXX is down! XXXX moves forward throwing the jab...he gets hit with another counter right cross...and XXXX is down! XXXX is down! XXXX just landed a short, clean hook that caught XXXX flush. XXXXl dropped like he'd been shot. XXX throws a wild overhand right that lands flush! XXXX drops to one knee and will take the count! That straight right caught XXXX clean. He brings his arms up in a defensive posture. Now he pitches forward! XXXX goes down after a delayed reaction to the cross by XXXX! And almost forgot abou the one about "folding like an accordian"-that one comes up quite a bit.

you do see the "violent shot under the ribcage" and folding like an accordian a little too much...

(name here) catches a right and drops like a stone.
(name here) walks into a hard left-right combination (or whatever) and collapses like a house of cards. (name here) nailed (name here) and he slumps to the canvas like a pole-axed calf. (name here) tumbles over on his ear from a wild haymaker of a right. (name here) goes down from a punch and a shove. (name here) flops on the canvas from a punch that travelled about six-inches and nearly took his head off! (name here) was caught off balance by that hard cuff on the ear and falls to one knee. (name here) and (name here) fall to the canvas in a tangle of arms and legs to the amusement of the crowd.

Over all I think the KD commentraty is pretty good, a few do come up too often but over all they are nice. Here are a few suggestions
how about the famouse cosell ranting of "down goes xxxxxx, down goes xxxx, down goes xxxx" If the fighter scoring the KD is of a significant lesser rating than the victim then "Oh my God, he knocked xxxx down, I don't believe it, what a shock here at (what ever venue), no one expected this, here is the count"

Some of the lines we are suggesting look good,
Now when beta testing the game the lines that are now in the game also looked pretty good. The same problem is going to happen though with any new lines suggested, after a while no matter what you put in, the text it is going to sound repetetive. In fact the better the text line is the more it is going to stand out and get annoying after a while. I still think myself the idea has to be to make a little suspence creep into the lines and at time try to keep the reader on edge for a few seconds. |

Along with the suspense part which I agree with, Situation specific dialog also should be used. If its a one sided fight there should be commentary reflecting this and if its close it should reflect this as well.

I forget who it was but years ago on ESPN, whenever a guy went down hard & it looked like he wasn't going to beat the ten count, the guy calling the fight would say:
"Good night sweet prince" At the time I thought it was sort of dumb but now it strikes me as sort of funny. |

The Knockdown is the homerun ball of Boxing and deserves some attention that's for sure.
I wish I could find my old recording of Tommy Hearns vs Marvin Hagler...man what action that fight had! Tommy Hearns, one of the greatest pound for pound fighters, thought he could lower the boom on Marvin Hagler and found out just why Marvin's got to be one of the greatest middleweights of all time. Any way I remember one of the color commentators was Sugar Ray Leonard...I'll never forgot him screaming into the Mike after Hagler nailed Hearns with a huge shot... "Tommy's on Queer Street!!!" |

Referee ______ puts _____ in the neutral corner as he begins his count.
_______ just got his bell rung and Yes! he's down! ____ legs quivered before he collapsed to the canvas. The referee is going to call this a standing knockdown. ____ looked like a picasso painting after he absorbed that shot and down he went. |

____ slams the canvas with disgust as he struggles to regain his bearings here in the ___ round.
_____ tells _____ to sit down with that shot and ___ is in real trouble after he landed awkwardly on the canvas. _____ chops him down like a tree and he finally slumps to the canvas. ____may have voluntarily taken a knee here on this one. Referee ____ begins his count. _____ looks dazed and confused after that shot. I'm not sure he knows where he is at this point. OOH what a shot! I don't think ___ is going to make it up after this one. |

Some great suggestions above. I vote as well for the Cosell classic, "Down Goes XXXX, Down Goes XXXX, Down Goes XXXX".
The "pole-axed calf" comment was priceless!

(Fighter A) attempting to block (Fighter B)'s onslaught of punches...and (Fighter B) connects with a brutal (Punch type) to the (Location on body) as (Fighter A)'s back touches the ropes! (Fighter A) is down!
(Fighter A) keeps swinging away at (Fighter B) blindly, leaving himself exposed to a dangerous shot...and there it goes! (Fighter B) connects with a (Punch type) to (Location on body), and flies backwards onto the canvas! (Fighter B) connects with a (Punch type for body), and (Fighter A) goes down, writhing in agony! It did seem a bit low blowish, however. |
