Cool HTML Improvement Suggestion

Hey guys,

I've played out the first year of my BCBA and will be posting results at BigCityBaseball soon. It's always occurred to me that the HTML Master report, although having most all the stats one would want, doesn't make it "easy" to follow the season from beginning to end... something that interests me just as much as studying the final stats.

All the info is there in multiple reports - even in chronological order - but you have to jump around from report to report to try and get a feel how the season progressed. Usually, if your like me, you read the Breaking News report and pretty much leave it like that - unless something catches your eye to look into further.

Well, this time I tried something - manually!! - and came up with a report I believe Markus could make easily from what he already does - yet gives a totally different look to a season !!

What I've done is taken the General News report, Breaking News, Transactions, Injuries, and the Box Scores report - and combined them into a single, day-to-day league report... and to be honest it gives a whole new meaning to "following the season". Almost as good as reading the daily newspaper.

I've included a sample below. The box scores aren't linked yet, but will be when I publish the 1958 results at BCB... and the only two things that would make the report perfect would be to have all mentioned players linked to their own files - and maybe a weekly "standings" sections that would allow you to follow the ups and downs of each team during the season.

Let me know what you think - and if you like the idea, let's make sure Markus knows we like it

New Report Sample

Very nice, this would be a great option.

Henry that report looks great. I think that is definetly something that needs to be looked into as a possible feature for OOTP5, as it is very easy to follow and like you said has most of the info everyone looks at anyways.

Henry... the report is a fantastic step in the right direction. With a little more tweaking/cleaning-up it would be an excellent addition that every on-line league would use... maybe as historic and widely used as Rudy Kamman's FPS html utilities. Man... I remember when those babies came out. It was like getting your first girlfriend. You no longer had to do everything by hand. (sorry... that was bad...)
Anyway, player pictures (or the option to add them) with the stories would be nice. Monthly standings would take up less space than weekly. Getting the trades listed on there would be very nice, too.
I cannot wait to see this released.

IMHO, that would be nice, but I think that would not be worth the time it would take, much like if Markus programmed Wallman's utility right into the game.

My only suggestion would rather than have it be all one long giant list, you could show each month of the season as a link that then shows each day in that entire month.

But other than that, it looks good.

Henry,

This report gives a very nice review of the season...is the utility something that you plan on making available for download?

I actually created this manually - and don't have the skills to parse the existing reports into this one (although Wallman might ... I "cut-and-pasted" this one to show what I had in mind - and was hoping Markus could add it fairly easily to version 5 of OOTP.

Just an FYI - the BCBA results for the 1958 season will go up soon and a full version (with some pictures and links) will be at BCB for everyone to look at.

Henry

ps: To those that suggested I break it up into monthly reports... you get your wish

Well, I thought this was pretty darn good idea, so I rolled up my sleeves and went to work. What I came up with looks like this:

http://www.jcato.net/abl/gazette/index.htm

What do you think? Would you like to make pages like this for your leagues? Well, you can, just go here:

http://www.jcato.net/downloads/

and download the Gazette program! Unzip and run setup to install.

I tested it on several leagues, so hopefully it will work for everyone. If not, let me know the problems and I'll try to fix it.

Enjoy!
