Question on Importing FTP league files

Hi all

I posted this question a couple days back on the OOTP6 discussions board, but had no replies...

I just set up FTP for my online league and some owners have uploaded their files to my server. I went into the game and imported all those files to my local machine using the Import all Teams from FTP Server button . Now that that is done, what is the next step to get the changes in those files applied to the game? Do I have to go to each team's setup menu and click Import Team? Or are the changes done automatically?

Thanks in advance.

If you imported them from "within the game" then they should be done. Imports and exports MUST be from the same exact file(in other words a file from last week if you have simmed since wouldn't necessarily work).

Simple steps:

1. You upload your league file in zipped format to your website, and make sure there's a link for GM'S to access and download it.
2. GM's download the file, place it in Program Files, Out of the Park Developments, OOTP6 and then open it with OOTP6.
3. They make changes and then, via Team Setup, hit Export Team to FTP.
4. Before simming, you go to Online League Setup and hit Import All Teams from FTP Server.
5. Sim your games and go back to step one. That simple.

The importing of teams means that you are importing them as the GM's have exported them, with all changes done already.

As Mr. Kuffrey says, after you sim, you won't be able to import teams that were exported by your GM's in which they used a previous league file. You can only import teams that were manipulated using your most current league file.

Hope this helps.

I actually am in the habit of deleting the old export files off the server between sims. During the regular season, OOTP will not import outdated export files since the days don't match up, but during the off-season, there are times in which the old exports will NOT be invalidated. Just to be safe, I delete exports between every sim.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I didn't feel it deserved it's own thread....

When downloading or uploading a file, is it possible for anyone else (most likely the commish) to see the name who's it is registered under? I mean, if I download or upload something, will ANYONE see my full name? Or will it be done anonomously, so to speak? Just wondering.

Nope. Everyone uploads the exports by loggin in under the username designated on the online league setup screen (most likely the same username that the commish uses to log on to the FTP site).

I'm a newb here...how is that name created? Does the commish input it? It could be "brown cows" for all it's worth?

So, that means, when we upload a file, the commish would see that "Brown Cows" uploaded/downloaded, and NOT Joe Schmo? He would have no way to see the registered name, correct? Also, explain where this FTP name comes from. Also, newb again...is FTP just basically all downloading or uploading of league files, or a certain kind? Thanks for the help.

The only thing that a commissioner sees is the name of the uploaded file TEAMXX.EXP where 'XX' is the team ID number. All of the FTP info is entered in by the Commish. It basically includes the username and password for logging on to his server as well as the upload location. None of this info is important to owners in the league.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) simply refers to the process of uploading files to a server.

Can anyone tell me why my exports don't work? I hit Export Team to FTP button from the team setup page and it just fails. I am trying to start a league and the export just fails. I can test the connection and I can upload the league reports with no trouble, but exports are giving me hell. They just won't work. The error message says "Export Failed!" if that halpes. Nothing else. When I go to look at what has been posted to my FTP server, I can see TEAM3.EXP where that was the team I attempted to export. The file has nothing in it. So I can see that it can find the file for the league. I can export teams locally, just not to FTP. Any thoughts?

jm, Are you the commissioner? If so, you don't have to export. Only your league members have to. Have they had trouble? All you have to do is import from the Online League setup page.

Make sure the file is the most updated league file and that you haven't run any sims. Your league GM's will go to thier team setup page and export to ftp there. if it doesn't work:

a. Your settings (target directory, website, username) are not right.
b. You're not connected to the internet
c. You may have some kind of firewall preventing your ftp (Zone Alarm or Anti-Virus programs running)
d. The server is down, maybe temporarily.

There are other causes but I suggest testing the connection on the Online league setup page and if it's o.k. you should have no problem exporting a team.

I tried to do an export test for him and it came up failed, I am thinking its a firewall setting or something of that nature

I'm going to try to get into the file for him, if the export failed for you I think it might be in the setting he's using in online league setup. Maybe between the three of us we can figure it out

He may also have to check the Write/read/execute permission settings on his server.

Could this be a permissions issue? I got a test successful and a export failed as well...I think it's got to be in the settings

This sounds so obvious I almost don't want to ask you...

In the online league options in the "General Options" is Internet League Mode Enabled or disabled?

...And are you hitting "export team" or "export team to ftp"? (in the team setup page)
