Another game freeze...

This has always been something I just worked around, but what the hey. I'm starting a fictional league from 1901 with OOTP and in the Windows XP operating system, and it crashes right before or during the play of the first game on the schedule. Now, before you say "you must not have installed this properly", let me point out that I had the exact same problem on my old computer (a 500 mHz system running Win98). This only happens in "extreme" type seasons such as the Dead Ball Era and 1930.

Is this a known problem?

Did you alter the league totals? When I did some playing around with testing league totals to try to produce a fictional league with deadball-era-style when I put in numbers that could not mathematically work out (something like more HR than total hits), the league crashed like you are describing.

That's just a guess, probably triggered by seeing your username by the recent posts in League Totals threads.

Actually, no, although I have had that problem before... let me pull up the program and have a look-see... okay, things are really, really close, but I don't think anything's actually in the negative. There are 986 more hits (out of 41,293) than extra base hits and 57,484 more at bats than hits + strikeouts (out of more than 166,000 total). I'll take away some homers (add in real life, take away on the adjustor) and see if that has an effect.

No effect with removing 2,000 of 'em (as in, the game still freezes up, although this time when I came back in, it looks like it managed to sim one game before doing so)... now I removed 10,000 strikeouts... nope, still froze up, though I'll probably get a whole game simmed out of that, too.

I'd like to say, since it could possibly help, that I had the problem also with a couple of cases that were mathematically possible though highly unlikely (such as hits being 60% of ABs). But I cannot remember that for sure. Perhaps it was just that the numbers did not work out like I hoped they would for the adjustments rather than the game locking or crashing.

I think I found out the problem. The game doesn't like working with leagues that have really high or really low hits/balls in play ratio. That means, ironically enough, that if you're running a dead ball era thing and you want everything else to work out right, you have to actually increase the Ks, which, of course, decreases them in the game and gives the era an even more old-timey feel than really is there. I think the game originally gave me a .151 H/BIP; once I bumped that over .230, everything seemed to work well.

All this could have been fixed (perhaps) if the era editor was done right the first time...

gmo, are all of your lineups and pitching rotations filled out properly? If not, run the A.I. manager on all of the teams. Make sure every team has a starting pitcher slated to start on the schedule screen.

Yes, that's the problem. The computer managers don't fill in lineup slots if the H/BIP is too low or high. That makes PERFECT sense.
