16 years old??

I've never seen a 16 year-old.

This guy was generated by the game, and was the 2nd overall pick.

Did you spend high school in a bubble or something?

Seriously? I see two or three every draft.

In MLB, you might see a 16 year old signed out of the Dominican Republic but I don't think players from the DR are included in the ammy draft.

seriously.

Not to say they haven't been produced, I just haven't noticed one. I guess I probably just missed them.

I noticed several in our last few drafts. I always mean to follow them to see how they develop, but I forget.

Last year, a top pick in our draft was a 16 year old: http://www.invitationonlysports.com/...php?G_pid=4578

He has progressed nicely thus far in one year, but it is still early.

He's precocious,
and he knows it,
and he knows just what it takes to make the pros blush.

All the scouts think he's a spy,
he's got Willie McGee eyes.

I've seen them from time to time. They come up fairly regularly for me.

If you play a 19th-century league using an unmodified Lahman db, this guy imports as a 14 year old:

I see them all the time too. I guess the consensus here is that phenom doesn't usually pay much attention to his drafts.

I haven't read this thread yet, I just want to say that whatever you do, don't drive them across the Georgia line.

My 2B in my solo league was 17 last season. He hit .258/22/81 with 35 SB's. And I have the settings adjusted so that the league leader in HR only had 36. The kids got a bright future. But he is definitely the exception. He's the only 17 year old that I've had to reach the majors.

I've seen 16 year olds in the draft, usually MR's.

He was drafted at 16.

And yes...he is still the greatest player I have ever seen.

I drafted a 16 year old with the 5th overall pick of the draft in one of my solo leagues.

He ended up becoming a regular starter by 18.

He's now 23, he has 184 homeruns, 801 hits, and a career .273 average.

He hit 35 homeruns in his rookie year, 34 the next year, 24 the following year after being injured for seven weeks, and has hit 43, and 48 homeruns, respectively the last 2 years. He has also driven in 100 runs every year for me except the year he missed 7 weeks.

Safe to say, he hasn't disappointed.

I have had very bad luck with the younger players. I had a kid that I drafted at 16, brought him at 19. He put up really good stats uptil the time he was 28 but was out of the league by 30, ending up a one star scrub.....funny thing was his actual stats were better than his talent ratings for the first 3 years I had him on the ML roster.

He was a 3 blue star catcher, but was a 4.5 gold star player when he turned to 26. He had big drops after that though....

I now hesitate to bring up young players too quickly and I draft older players before younger players.

I don't know if I'd call it "very bad luck" to get 9 really good years out of any draft pick, regardless of his age
